My best advice is go down to a music tech shop anf try them for yourself - i ended up with a pair off Shure SRH840 and got them down to £100

never had a problem with sony MDR-V700 personally i find them great for studio work and as far as i know Josh Gabriel uses them to so they not exactly ****. besides if they are half decent sound (not harsh or dull) and you know them well then you should be able to work well with just about anything.
