Ableton and omnisphere: using mod wheel in an automation lane

Setup: Ableton, Omnisphere on a midi track. The mod wheel is modulating several parameters in Omnisphere.

I got the automation somehow running by:

  • adding another midi clip with a clip
  • in the clip clicking the “E” button on the bottom left
  • selecting “modulation” under envelopes
  • drawing my curve
  • assigning an input midi channel to the omnisphere track and setting output on the 2nd track to the omnisphere track + setting omnisphere instead of “track in” as a target

But, the mod wheel events are “hidden” in the midi track. I would prefer to draw the mod wheel changes as an automation curve to see directly in the session view what’s going on. Is there a way to do this?

At least I’d like to see in the session view what I’m drawing in the clip

Illustration. “3 MIDI” is the track with the mod wheel data. I’d like to have that data as automation curve, or at least see the curve in the “3 MIDI” track in the session view without opening the clip.
