just purchased kick 2. it seems the drag and drop does not work in cubase/nuendo? and… there doesn’t appear to be a way to listen to/audition samples from the browser when you are trying to “load” external samples into the “click” slots. am i doing something wrong or is there really no way to audition sounds before you load them?

You should be able to drag drop from your Finder / Explorer window onto KICK 2 inside Cubase.
RE: the audition - if you load a click file from a folder location, you can then browse the whole folder using the left / right arrows in the click area to allow you to audition.
