Andy, my personal opinion would be if your new to production and want to learn more about sound design stick to Sylynth as it has an easy interface + its what is used in all the tuts here for the formentioned reason. Most NI instruments are not really plug and play as they can be rather confusing and take quite alot of work, but once you have mastered them then you will have a great resource

Thanks for advice I think I’ll get sylenth but also take advantage of free on Massive while it’s cheap for future.
The only confusing thing on massive is the way the dials work and the different colours for different parts of the synth. It comes with some nice presets and making simple trancy leads and wobble basses is easy. This is a must have synth if you make any sort of genre that makes use of wobbly basses. The LFO wave draw
mode is insane. Lotsa tutorials on youtube on it too. If you want a synth from NI that will take you a century to master and keep you busy at night then get FM8.

Finally got my copies of Massive and George Duke’s Soul Treasure - technically they turned up at the weekend but I wasn’t here.
Just installed Massive - damn that’s a lot of presets.
Yeah actually mine came the other day, I was so overwhelmed I forgot to mention it.
The crafty b@stards sent me through a €25 voucher too, means I’m obviously going to have to spend that too.
It’s a shame I missed this! Traktor is still on for half off though! Picking that up today…

Yeah, they’re evil. Basically it’s a 50% off voucher for a bunch of patches or effects. Soooooo tempting. Especially Massive Threat. Having said that I still haven’t installed the George Duke thing yet. Well, lots of Xmas hols to come to tweak it.
