Any Canadians in the house?

Yeah we’ve definitely got fatter over the years, i blame mcdonalds, subway and the likes… funnily enough they’re american brands…
jon_fisher (29/07/2010)

[b]

because they are shown and taught from a very young age to be competitive, confident and out spoken. we are taught to keep it to our self, take it on the chin and keep your opinions to yourself and this imo is why we see the americans as big headed and arrogant.
That’s a good point of view and food for thought actually buddy! Could possibly have hit nail on the head, who knows.
roben (29/07/2010)
lol thought as much!

Americans may like to mock other countries with stereotypes, ie: English people about their teeth or that they sound like Oliver Twist or Posh, Scottish people all wearing kilts and having ginger hair and Canadians with thier flappy heads and being moose f*ckers…

However non reigns true, the only truth about any stereotype is that yanks are actually seriously obese, eat too much, walk around with an arrogence thinking they’re the greatest country in the world and have annoying accents. :stuck_out_tongue:

You buy a plate of food in America and they give you enough food to feed your family! haha
And howie’s angry retourt starts in 3, 2, 1…

I don’t believe the above is true, I know plenty of yanks, and whilst I’ll always call them dirty war mongering rednecks to wind them up, I never ever believe it, I just like to be a tosser to them… much like they call me a dirty limey redcoat with bad teeth.

I did meet one of the afformentioned stereotypes in Australia once though and I was truly repulsed by how fat and arrogant he was… unfortunatley they’re the funniest people to put on TV so they get the most press overseas and then the stereotypes start.

Yeah i’ve met a fair few american stereotypes haha

So cheesy and annoying at the same time, it’s that ‘have a nice day’ thing with the over the top fake smile that really gets up my nose.

haha i dont mean ‘EVERY’ american is like the above… just a large portion of them.

Hey, we’re (UK) are easily following suit anyways, just not as arrogant.

A stereotype us brits do live up too though is our ability to drink vast amounts of alcohol and cause debauchey and ‘fisty cuffs’ on night outs in the towns in drunken states.

I would say though when it comes to drinking, the welsh, the scottish and the irish easily out drink us…

Are we the English the only ones in the world who arn’t that patriotic?

I look at the Welsh, the Scots, the Irish and the Yanks and they are so patriotic, then there is us, we don’t even give a sh*t haha.

That would be because were a bunch of egomaniacs and think the rest of humanity should revolve around us …shallow and full of crap but also  way too opinionated…

or maybe thatcould be just me ?..

it’s not fake dude americans are really like that and they wish people “have a nice day” because thats what they are like. we brits want to kill each other just for looking in our general direction.

seriously dude what annoys you more the “FAKE” “have a nice day” or the very real “WHAT THE **** ARE YOU LOOKIN AT ****”

americans are cool

well i mean the teenage cheerleaders are anyway :hehe:

English and Proud to be are two words i won’t speak very often, this country is full of scum bags that don’t want to work but blame eastern Europeans for taking their jobs. 60% of the UK think that the world owes them a living.

I’ll swap 60% of the rot in this country for americans, russians, polish, spanish anyone other than english

They are taking all our jobs though, you know unemployment is at a record low at the moment. Infact 1 in every 4 people in the UK is unemployed, that’s very high. If we didn’t have all these people move over to our country there would be much more jobs going and much less unemployment, fact.

Also it’s getting a bit of a p
ss take because a lot of jobs now require the ability to be multilingualed.

I’m personaly p*ssed off with it dude, I don’t get enough DJing to make a living from so i need work, but can’t for the life of trying, get one. Even though i have loads of skills and experience in every position I apply for including wicked qualifications. All i get is rejection emails / letters or no reply at all.

It’s very very disheartening and demoralising. I not so long ago had to go to doctors due to stress and anxiety because of it.

Don’t take this as a personal thing because i know you have been looking for work…

many people are pissed with the fact of unemployment being so high, yes your are correct that 1 in 4 are unemployed but those one in four are English. If we listen to the guys that have the businesses we will realize These guys are not taking our jobs, we are giving them away. 70% of the english people living in the uk don’t and will not work for £5.80 an hour and many companies simply can’t afford to pay higher rates.

I’m not saying that every one turns down minimum wage jobs but most do and with no reason. for example when i was running a business a two years back i interviewed around 20 lads (quick chat, find out what they can/can’t do) for general dogs body jobs around a building site. almost all of them apart from two had no experience, no knowledge, hardly any of there own tools and no skills but all except three of them didn’t want to start work for £6ph, one or two of those guys wanted £12ph (with nothing to offer) when i asked them why they thought they would get £12ph, the replied something along the lines of “because thats what we know people on building sites get” basically speaking some twat at a YTS training center had told them so.

anyway the only three guys to take the jobs, two of them with years of experience and one with none. all three guys went on to being paid a lot more than they started on. thats the problem with this country though people want full whack before they’ve even finished the interview. Redgoldfish have 40000+ jobs available on their web site fish4jobs have 25000+ and the job center reported over 450,000 jobs available only last week that only a small % of english people are even applying for.

I’ve personally gone from earning £1000 per week (4 day weeks) to earning £5.80 per hour doing a **** job. i would be better off living on the dole and not working by about £10 per week but is that really worth my soul???

In this country english people get it too easy to not have to work.

if you have children you get:

Child Tax Credit

Child Benefit

Job Seekers Allowance

Council Tax Benefit

Housing Benefit

Health Care

Dental

Opticians

I’m not saying everyone in this country is that way but this is how employers are seeing english people these days, its not the fault of those that want to work and its not the fault of the the Europeans. it the fault of the average english prick that wants to grab anything he can with out having to lift a finger, blame all the people that don’t want to work before you blame those that do.

How many agency jobs or factory jobs have you gone for ?

also remember you are talking to a guy that lives in Norfolk, we have more Eastern Europeans in Norfolk than any other part of the UK. in fact my local paper quoted that we are now out numbered 60% to 40%.

I’m in a bit of a unique position here - I left the UK about 4 years ago and I’ve not been back yet. Since I left aparently my home town is now full of polish people!

It must be hard not to point some blame at immigrants really considering they work for less because they live in lesser conditions than most english people. By that I mean they have less of a problem living in a smaller house, driving a cheaper car etc. As a result they CAN work for less.

Two things I want to point out here:

If I was jobless I’d take whatever I could to get by. I’d adapt. People are too reluctant to do that. I’d work long hours, rubbish jobs etc to keep my head above water if I had to. Luckily I don’t have a family to provide for but you can bet your *** I’d do anything to make sure they were provided for. There’s ALWAYS work out there - it just might be a bit unenjoyable.

Second - the UK is horrendously expensive. When I left I moved to New Zealand. I took about a 10K paycut lived by myself in a nice apartment in the heart of the city, had a nice car (so plenty of expenses) and still my quality of life was hugely higher than the UK. When i lived in the UK I was into an overdraft more or less every month. In New Zealand I had no debts at all. My point here isn’t to boast, it’s that there’s a reason it’s known as Rip Off Britain.

I’ll not live in the UK again unless I have to, because of this exact reason.

Hey roben i feel your plight man … really i do but you cant blame people for wanting better …im sure you do for yourself right ? yeah there is a problem  but maybe commute to london man there are tons of jobs here and only an hour from you in brighton ne way i hope that something gives for you soon chin up man life is too short ! :)

Roben

i really do wish you the best of luck in the world mate but don’t get down, bitter about it dude you’ll turn into what the rest of this country are like, we spend to much time full of hate, blaming other people for whats wrong and most of the time the people we blame are those that are just trying to better their lives.

Another reason real jobs are scarce these days is historical, in the 80’s Thatcher destroyed our manufacturing industry as well as the unions. She was able to this a) because we had North Sea Oil and that she sold everything but the kithchen sink. We also then relied on service industry and the city, the later being for a small elite. Once the bubble burst and Blair took over there was no money left in the pot. So we invited foreign investment to buy up everything else. 85% of buildings in The City of London are owned by Arabs.

So what does above todo with jobs you may ask, basically the country is broke the only manufacturing industry which is actually worth anything is the arms industry, hence why Blair was so keen to get involved in wars. Since we are part of a global market forign companies can invest, build factories in 2 years and then pull out to another part of the world where cheaper labour is

Traditionally this country was built on foriegners - either from slavery or mass immigration from West Indies and other former colonies, today is no different especially due to current economic climate.

Also in Brighton their is a very large student population who if not being funded by their parents need to work to survive due to tutition fees, which will make it an employers market

Working at the CAB there has been a 30% increase with european workers being exploited - ie not being paid minimum wage, working 70 hours per week 7 days a week etc etc. In times of economic gloom its always easy to blame the forigners its how Mosley and the Black Shirts gained momentum, and British Movement today have gained respect (sic).
egg2 (30/07/2010)
but maybe commute to london man there are tons of jobs here and only an hour from you in brighton ne wayi hope that something gives for you soon chin up man life is too short !:)
I live half way inbetween London and Brighton and used to work in London - I used to be up at 5.30 to get into work by 9 and sometimes would not get back till 9 due to transport being underfunded etc… Also my fares were £250 per month so from Brighton I would imagine they would be twice that much so unless roben can earn £35K plus it would just not be worth it

Anyway best of luck roben finding work and I maybe joining you soon at the dole queue as I just learn’t our funding is being cut too :frowning:

Thanks guys, however I do think you’ve got me all wrong. I don’t blame foreigners, but I do see it as an additional problem that definitely hasn’t helped matters.

People forget that the UK is only a small island, yet half of the world want to live here.

I’m angry at the system and at employers, not foreigners.

Also I think you’ve got me all wrong, i have literally applied everywhere and anywhere, i get told i’m ‘too qualified’. So it’s a losing battle.

I even threw the hat in and went for ASDA (part of the wallmart family for any americans reading this) the other week, i just got a letter saying no.

ffs, asda? Come on, it’s jokes.

I may just have to pimp my arse down kemptown (gay part of brighton) loool

I have thought about London but the cost of travel is so high it really does take the pss. Plus because I’m starting my part time course in Sept so i’d never be able to do a traditional 9-5 job now anyways and working part time in london would barely be worth doing after costs and time of travel.

Screw it, the country is f
cked up and it’s just chewing me up and sh*tting me out.
