i def have to agree with ICN & slender. (making me sick as I type this… :P)
its easy to let the real world bog you down and take away hope for your dreams.
and its really hard to stay focused on the goal and be true 2 yourself.
but when u can find that balance between imagination & reality… your on the right track.
having experience in the real world and/or in the music industry is priceless. the lessons that you learn as a young adult and the trials you go through are much needed for most people. For me a little rejection and failure, goes a LONG way to making me a better person. It teaches and reminds you that you have to work your A$$ off to get where you want to be.
as far as the whole job thing/reality goes… if i didnt have a good job… I wouldnt have so many cool toys in my studio… a kid like my brother who just turned 18 wouldnt have a shot in hell to acquire all the things we have in the studio without somebody either buying it for them (parents, whatever)… or pirating/stealing it. but even then… you can’t steal a little phatty. you can’t steal a great computer (try, but odds are you steal an E-machine)… so while you can learn… your income will seriously limit your ability to evolve your sound, studio & equipment… compound that with the face that when your 18-24 your trying to do college, live on your own, pay bills… its reallllllllllllllllly tough to devote a ridiculous percentage of income & time to productions when you are younger and still trying to get your hands around the real world…
everybody has a different situation… but I’m of the mind that the vast majority of people… are not rich, have to work their asses off and devote lots of time to be where they want to be… that’s just the way the cookie crumbles…
its the choices you make that decide your fate!

Common sense tells me that you have to get the balance between your:
1.Love Life - Family / Friends / Relationships
2.Work Life - Career.
3.Dream Life - Aspirations / Hobbys / Interests / Escape Plan.
…in order to be truly happy. Too much of one - the rest will suffer & you’ll start feeling fustrated, depressed etc… Sound familiar anyone?

TBH I think if I did make it sic. I would still work where I work - probably on a voluntary basis and less hours - but then I am one of the few who loves what they do

Unbelievable this week
Till this day i have never finished a full production…i don’t know why…i just want it to be perfect…I’m too harsh on my self i want perfection and i want something original…so i really cant say how long i have been producing since i haven’t finished anything…But Ive been playing with music and sound design since 7th grade 6 years ago…I had alot of time to practice since i got very ill in 7th grade and had to leave school and finish it in a charter school (1hour school! :D) so i taught myself how to play piano on this ****ty piano i had…then my friend gave e a pirated version of FL Studio some vsts and i started messing with sound design…Now i have bought off everything i have pirated bought ableton, bought some gear…and i feel confident enough to atleast start finishing something lol…i have no excuse though i don’t have college to go to or a job that i need to go to (although i do graphic design and web design do that from home) man all you guys came from bands and stuff i wish i had that experience, but i was sick in bed with FL ahaha
