I have a few releases in Psytrance currently. I love these videos because it gives me new ideas. I really like the tutorial on making a bass with Omnisphere. I have Trillian and it follows all the same things taught in the course. I also really like how each plugin is taught and explained. I also really appreciate the amount of automation used and will apply to my own tracks.

Perfect for a beginner

Providing all of the 88 audio tracks makes this tutorial alone - worth the price of the annual subscription. Plus, the quality of the narration and the production is head and shoulders above everything else here. All other producers who feature here, should make it their ambition to reach this level of quality.

No, this one was a step backwards. Only the the group audio stems are included - not the individual tracks, and apart from the drums and bass, there are no midi files for any of the important lead parts.

Was more thinking about the teaching & learning than focusing on the course resources TBH… :slight_smile:

Yes, you are quite right. I do wish thoug that there was some consistency - although Nate is at the front of the pack for this compared to the others (who, quite frankly are embarrassing). I do have to laugh, when I pay money for a learning resource, only to find that I could teach them a trick or two. Nate of course, is an exception to this.

Hey David, are you referring to the 2019 tutorial missing midi parts? I do a lot of audio bouncing during the tracks and a lot of destructive audio editing, but just double check to unhide all tracks. I often disable and hide midi channels in my projects once I’m done with them… can’t remember if that was the case but just try it out and see. :slight_smile:

Brilliant course, learnt a lot. Didn’t follow it to the letter, but ended up with a great result. Love all the sample chopping and mangling that Nate does - make tracks far more interesting to listen to, and really appreciated the mastering tips. Can’t wait to start the 2019 course.

would you please tell me how you made the vocal in this brilliant track?

Rinkadink - Ultima (Protoculture Remix)

My first guess was that it’s synth sound. I tried to layer “Female Pop xxx” sounds from Omnisphere (where xxx was either “ehs”, or “ohs”, or “ahs”) with a matching sound from ZebraHZ.

I liked what I got, but something was missing. It wasn’t the tremolo or gate effect. That’s trivial.

In Ultima, your vocals open up in a few seconds. They start darker and become brighter.

I tried to achieve it by:

  • Automated EQ
  • Automated filters
  • Automated formant-like filters
  • Reversed reverb
  • Fading the “Ahs” to “Ohs” (volume automation)
  • Multiband saturation with automating the band

Nothing was even close. How to make this beautiful opening or brightness curve or whatever we call it in the vocal?

Another track, Sonic Entity & Ilai - Dmt Perception has a bit similar effect on the vocals.

Or was it a problem that I used a synth sound instead of a sample of the real thing?

Sorry, this is so old… had to go back and listen to the track again. I don’t think there is anything special happening there… there is a gate on it… other than that I think it was a patch off my Roland XV that let you fade between ooh and ah sounds… probably a bit of white noise in there as well. Omnisphere has a similar patch that lets you fade with the modwheel between styles.

I guess it’s also about the EQ and mixing. That track is timeless. Awesome work.

Thanks to your videos I bought everything from Plugin Alliance (they had a summer sale in June) as well as the Slate Digital All Access.

That’s fine but I’m not much into buying the VPS stuff because of the dongle.

Do you think FabFilter Volcano or something else can replace Philta and Trance Gate in a reasonable quality and ease? I compared Philta to Volcano’s and TDR Nova GE’s HP filter. Maybe Philta cuts “stronger”. I could hear more lows with the other two plugins (tested it 12, 24, and 48 dB). Maybe Philta separated better. But I’m not sure how important it was. And the dongle is meh.

The Trance Gate is another story because even if I can make Volcano sound the same, TG has many presets for it’s primary purpose. Time is money. I also have u-he Uhbik-T that has pattern editing feature but I didn’t have time for it yet.

So, my question is, why are you using the Philta when you have cleansweep pro? Do they sound that different?

Do you know a dongle-free and high-quality replacement for Trance Gate?
