Welcome aboard on the forums ! :sunglasses:

Really great course. I wish sonic academy would do some more synthwave tutorials and mixing classes. There are a ton of other great up and coming artists that would love to be apart of this.

Great to see pro point of view and the approach to make music.

A very complete course in which Tim from “The Midnight” explains in detail the process of creating the “Comeback Kid”. Very good for those who work with Logic Pro.

As much as I liked the course, I can’t help but missing the “why” on many of the things he does. It feels a bit like step 1, step 2, step 3, without talking much about why deciding on that melody, why doing the bridge there, why having what number of instruments together… I would classify it as a technical step-by-step breakdown of a song. I think I probably learned more paying attention to how he moves around logic, ussage of channels and busses, etc…

Thank you!

I am a The Midnight fan for sure, especially their Endless Summer album, but I am blown away by the fact that Tim didn’t pan anything and left everything in stereo and straight down the middle. I wasn’t expecting that. I guess it works for them, but I’m sure the mix would’ve sounded a lot more spacious if some of these instruments had been mixed in mono. As a Logic Pro user of many years, I appreciated the fact that this was all done in Logic.

top notch course, very well explained and everything sounds great. For my daw, and with project files. Top notch.

I don’t understand why the resources have two separate files, the logic project doesn’t load the audio and midi files automatically

There’s audio samples bounced from the Logic Project as well as Midi clips and some presets in the HTM_Synthwave_The_Midnight_Resources.zip, that’s handy for people who don’t have the same plugins or using a different DAW to follow along with the course.

Hmm, while Logic will warn you about the missing plugins, it’s loading audio and Midi, even in latest Logic 11.2.2

The Project doesn’t start at Bar 1 for the top tracks though, are you maybe in a zoomed view at the project start ??

Thanks. Logic doesn’t load any audio or midi files. It just warns me of missing plugins and then it loads an empty project with the named tracks but absolutely zero files. I placed both folders in my Logic folder, and that’s what happens.

You’re likely getting the full zoom view when opening the project the first time, it’s also what’s happening at my end.

After clicking on “continue” to bypass the missing plugins message, zoom out the project view and slide forward into the project time.

Brilliant, you are absolutely correct! Thanks so much

half way into the course, and I have to agree with what someone else said about the ‘whys’. The author shows you how he did this and that, but he doesn’t say anything about - how to make synthwave-. He doesn’t say anything about arrangement, pitfalls to avoid, etc. Only ‘I did this’ or ‘I did that’ as if that explained much of anything.

The only good thing about the course is that you get the project file so you can try to figure these things out for yourself.
