My intention is to make tracks I need to mix with. That’s where ideas will come from. I’m sick of saying " I wish I had a track that went a bit like this, to go with that track". I’ll just make it. I should have done this years ago.
I just want everything I will need, so it’s there when I need it. If that makes sense.
I’ve been reading up on some more toys. The NI Kore 2, in particular.
Is the hardware absolutely necessary, if you already have a Maschine, Midi keyboard or an APC 40?
Have any of you tried the software? Are the instrument sets, efx etc worth the price tag? It looks awesome, but I could be totally wrong. Helllp.
The hardware (Kore2) is not essential. Its a device that integrates perfectly with NI software. allowing you to stack synths and add arps etc. A bit like Fusor in synth squad.
NI make some of the best synths and all are worth the price tag. Komplete is now cheaper than ever although you get less synths than you did in Komplete 5. check it out:
If money is no object will you buy me a couple of Motu MK3’s please
Nah but seriously, get some good monitors and consider some sound proofing of your studio. Bass traps, acoustic tiles and the like. It can really make a big difference. The big names say a good room is 50% of the battle won to a good mixdown.

i kind of agree with this, however you don’t need to go OTT with the acoustic treatment. nearfeild monitors where designed to work well in most rooms & acoustic treatment has more of an effect with mid field monitoring. basically speaking the closer you sit (with in reason) to your monitors the less need for the treatment because the sound from your monitors is effected less by the reflections of your room. while a bit of treatment will make a cheap set of monitors sound better, a badly treated room could make and expensive set sound worse.
the best thing to do is find a set you like the sound of read the manual, do a bit of research into how to treat your room and take your time to set it all up
also another good habit to get into is when making tracks keep the volume just above conversation level, that way you’ll be able to spend longer writing music with out getting fatigued ears
