Perhaps more housey stuff like Chris Lake, Marco Lys and Olav Basoski?
Roben couldn’t agree more - Chris Lake, Marco Lys and Olav Basoski all the way.
Am I the only one that thinks all that is much of a muchness.
Does anyone else here like music that isn’t straight 4/4?
+1 I love to listen to music that is no 4/4… So much of what we do is 4/4. People forget!
For example… Pink Floyd’s “MONEY” is in 7/8 time. I love that song. Some of the beatles stuff is actually not in 4/4. And probably 1 of my favorite bands of all time TOOL , do A LOT of music thats not in 4/4. Schism comes to mind (which I know how to play on guitar) and it is in 6/4…
4/4 & 3/4 is by far the easiest to write IMO!
What UV said
i think he was referring to 4 on the floor, not time sig.
you might be right howie… i thought it was time sig he was referring to…
In that case. We arn’t talking about trance anymore… and we should be talking dubstep.
4 to the floor though also denotes a 4/4 time signature.
4 quarter notes to a bar & 4 beats to a bar. 4/4 Time.
Even though dubstep does NOT have a 4 to the floor. It is almost always written in 4/4.
I’ve been searching, but I can’t find a dance song I know off the top of my head that is not in 4/4.
I will go out on a limb and say 99.99999% of all dance music is in 4/4 time.

Actually Roben swings both ways - he did have a techno militia avatar once
True
The truth is I love most music (just not RnB / Dubstep) but I do have my preferences.
In Ibiza for example I love Cream @ Amnesia (trance / house) which is my favourite night along with ‘We Love Sundays @ Space’ (tech house / techno).
If i had to choose between techno and trance i’d opt for Trance every time, but then i’d rather opt for House over the two of them anyways.
But not that SHM / guetta stuff, I prefer the funk based with tribal drum elements and big synths.
Infact like I suggested, Marco Lys / Chris Lake / Olav Basoski are bang on the nail with that stuff i’m really loving!
I think you’ve hit something there, I’d love some 3/4 or 6/8 key sig styles, why not? Why should it always be 4/4?
Lets step out the box for a tut, could be really interesting.
Yeah I mean 4 to the floor, Kick-tish, House based music
But am all up for crazy time signature stuff too. Even better drop the whole genre thing all together and look at component concepts more in depth.
I would imagine though that ‘How to sound like ’ is more appealing to new comers, and better for business, which after all is what SA is.
So I understand
When this discussion comes up, the lack of diversity offered up always reminds me of the Blues brothers:
Elwood: What kind of music do you usually have here?
Bar owner: Oh, we got both kinds. We got country and western.

No way dude. Trust me! You want nothing to do with that. Look at it this way too though, every EDM song is made in 4/4 time. If you were a DJ (and you are), and you were rocking out a huge crowd, would you drop in a track with 6/8 time when every other song in your crate is 4/4? It would probably make you feel uncomfortable, which you should.
Studying music has taught me a couple things.
A. I ***** hated it when I had to play a piece in a different time sig then 4/4. 3/4 wasnt too bad, but everything else blew.
B. The majority of classical music will use odd time signatures throughout the piece to create accidentals or tension throughout. So you see super weird time sigs, they arent usually in there for the duration, and rarely do time sigs not change in classical music.
just my $.02
I dunno man, I’ve been doing stuff on time signatures at college and i liked the sound of the 3/4 and 6/8 sigs, had a cool kinda swing to it
Perhaps some Hardstyle or Gabber?
My money is on Olaf Wachowski style house.
I really am feeling Chris Lake as well, he has a really nice mellow sorta house great for chilling out.
Chilling out?!!?! WtF, gets me wanting to dance like a mentalist!
