25 or 49 Keys

Hey everyone! I’m new to the site obviously, but I had one quick question before I really delved into producing and such. I’m looking into getting a MIDI Keyboard to start into producing, and I have an accommodation through my job that gives me a large discount on the SL Series Novation keyboards. I just don’t know if it’s worth paying the extra for a 49 key controller having no experience with a piano or keyboard whatsoever. Thanks in advance for the input. I look forward to being a regular member of the community here!

Other than the extra keys, it seems there’s no difference between the keyboards whatsoever. Which is why I’m not certain of needing the extra keys or not.

25 key ( not enough space, to play few notes, not keyboard player)

49keys ( enough room, keyboard player, sampling)

:hehe:

I like 49 keys becasue its a cool number:cool:

25 can be annoying because you find you have little space, although you can still play along the range as you have a octave +/- changer, it’s better still to have more keys so you have that easy flexablity.

you dont need anymore that 25

i think 4 is enough :hehe:

This should be adequate

thats david guetta’s!!

just preordered the new akai max49 that’s supposed to be out in April…it looks super sweet but costs around $500. i have 25 keys but need 49 now. i’ve starting sequencing sample modelling horns and need to control keyswitches on the lower octave while playing the horns a few registers above…also sequencing things like house piano I need the 49.

The Samson keys look great. I’m just interested in some of the features on the new Akai.

Just an observation but it seems difficult to find midi keyboards with drum pads that you can transpose on the fly (i.e. for use with ableton drum racks). Anyone seen this option on a 49 key?
