Ableton Live 9 - Can't record midi from one track to another post FX

hi there - I’m banging my head against the wall trying to record midi from one channel to another. I’ve followed a youtube tutorial and it still doesn’t work. The situation is I’ve got a midi clip playing a one note riff. Then before the VST instrument I’ve got a chord and scale insert so that it’s playing chords in the right scale. I want to record the resulting chords that are being played. the channel playing the riff is called "Main Riff"br
br

  1. insert a new midi channelbr
  2. open the I/O section of Live, and in the new channel, select midi from "Main Riff"br
  3. by default it’s set to “post fx”. br
  4. I arm the new track, and while playing the main riff clip I record a new clip on the new midi track.br
  5. new clip records with no midibr
  6. then I decided to try setting it to "pre fx"br
  7. arm the track, and play the main riff clip whilst recording a new clip on the new midi track. br
  8. The original single note riff is recorded into my new clip… not at all what I want.br
    br
Is it something to do with Chord and Scale being used? br
    br
When I go to the drop down box to choose pre/post fx I can see that midi is coming through to the new track pre fx, but not post fx.br
    br
Am I going crazy or doing something blindingly obvious wrong?!

Hi Ollybr
br
I would try turning off each fx one by one and keeping it post fx to see if theres something causing a conflict.br

Let us know what you find!br

This must be a bug, I did manage to do this eventually by creating a new channel, copying the midi clip across to it, then inserting two new instances of chord and scale on it. The I managed to follow the method above. br

The reason I say it must have been a bug is because before that I had duplicated the original channel, removed the virtual instrument and all other fx inserts so it only had re chord and scale, and it still wouldn’t send midi properly
