Ableton live problem

when i start ableton it takes control of the audio card so i dont then get sound from windows or windows media player. This is annoying as i want to be able to listen to music whilst im working on a track for inspiration. is there any way i can set up ableton so i can use it at the same time as windows media player?

thanks

J

Hi,

I dont really have this problem as i use the PC’S internal sound card for normal audio but us my BCD 2000 soundcard for Ableton.

You could try switching on and off the audio engine in Ableton that should work.

Hope this helps.

so you have one set of speakers on the internal sound card and then a set of monitors on the sound card you use for ableton?

I have both my internal sound card and my Behringer BCD 2000 going into seperate channels on my amp.

I can then select which source i want to listen to by selecting the required input.

Effectively both sounds are comming out of the PC but i select which one is audiable.

Hope this makes sense.

I think your option would be just to turn off the sound engine in ableton this should allow you to hear stuff from say windows media player.

what soundcard are you using?

I can have windows sounds and ableton with my m-audio 2496

My setup is straight forward really.

Sound card is a bog standard one within the pc. I have a 3.5 jack going to phon leads which go into my amp. I use this for if i want to listen to windows media player etc.

I then have my behringer BCD 2000 with bulit in sound card conected to my PC via USB. The audio out is agin conected to my amp via phon leads but this is put on a different input.

Within my amp i can then flick between the two inputs.

So when i use ableton i use the BCD sound card and for normal every day use i use the one within the PC.

The Berhinger will allow you through ableton to have a track playing through the speakers whilst monitoring another one.

This is a similar method to the traditional audio mixer used when dj’ing.
