Ableton nerd required

Hello,

im going to be doing some quite lengthy recordings for an ambisonics project today, did a few the other day and its such a ball ache chopping the samples up!

i want to try and speed up the work flow so my question is this…

is it possible to set up some midi mapping(s) so that on the fly i can:

1)disarm recording on one track

2)(a)create a new track (b)with the correct input selected

3)arm and continue the recording on the new track

4)repeat

seems like it could be done, though im having enough trouble getting ableton to receive midi from my Traktor s4 (it is in midi mode) and i have to weigh up getting this short cut working and just chopping the samples up as i have been.

many thanks!

kaya

Could you explain a bit detail more about the project and what it is you are doing? there maybe alternative ways of working.

What we are doing is creating a battlefeild

Scenario using ambisonics, so at the moment I’m playing different level and multiplayer on the bf3 and recording the output. It would be nice to chop the samples up as I’m playing rather than have to listen back to the whole thing and find the bit I want.

are you recording all 6 channels?

No we will be doing panning etc after recording, just two channels in.

you might be better using a stero file editor like Audacity… it will let you jump about and cut stuff up a bit quicker than ableton.

Im still not totally sure what it is you are doing tho.

Ive never heard f Ambisonics before.

ok i will check that out. the project not to important to the recording method as such. ambisonics is to surround sound what betamax was to VHS, its just another way to achieve multichannel ‘surround sound’ feel.
