Hey folks, a quick question if you please.
Is there any way to have one variable (like a reverb wet/dry knob) ‘listen’ to another variable (like velocity of a note).
I know about macros but I don’t know how to have one knob react to the other in the same rack.
Basically what I’m trying to do is this (in Ableton):
How to make a typical Electro bassline. - YouTube
Any help = awesome.
Thanks!

Do you mean an X Y filter kind of thing. There’s that ability in Ableton - when you create an instrument it automatically creates an XY for it, you just then use the drop downs to select the filters / knobs and move the dot around to change them
Hey Bouffont!
Yeah, I got that part down: the tweaking of knob-variables of an external synth in the x/y controller.
But here’s what I mean:
Say I want my reverb to go up (dry/wet knob) when I move the EQ-bass (gain knob) down and I want it to happen automatically without having to do automation for both.
Can that be done?
Or, I want the reverb to turn on when a note is not playing, so I only get the tail.
That sort of thing.
In FL Studio you can have one effect’s knob send signals to the knob of a total different effect using simple formulas (as shown in the video).
Is there any way to do that in Ableton?
Thx!

you can assign multiple controls to a single macro
just right click on the control and select macro 1 for filter frequency then do the same for the reveb dry/wet
Like Phil said, this is used in just about every pro track put out. This is great for buildups in breakdowns and its even great to add a different sound to your track so you dont necessarily have to add a completely different sound to your song.
Ah, that makes perfect sense!
It works now, thanks!
I just mapped everything I want to have happen in the effect rack to 2 knobs and next I’ll put those knobs on a midi x/y controller.
Too bad there’s no x/y controller that comes as an effect in ableton, but knobs make sense too.
Thanks guys! Y’all saved the day.
