Ableton plugs vs 3rd party plugs

Is it me or are the ableton plugs not all that?

I use mostly the ableton plugins

I’m thinking of getting 3rd party ones

Reverb

Eq

Compressor

Will my tracks sound better if I do this? Will there be a big difference?

Ok what I probably use on every track

Ableton Compressor, Ping Pong Delay, Simple Delay, EQ3 (rough cutting low and high, Reverb for differnt atmos

Try building your own audio effect racks - its fun to just mess about - just use a limiter at the end when experimenting

3rd party

Reverb - Aether

SoundToys (not always though)

FabFilter Pro (Eq) my favourite

I’m with you on this one. It just seems to me that some of the plugins are kinda blahhh…

The compressor in ableton is pretty good though. But its cool to have another 1 or 2.

I have Cytomic the Glue. Which is a great compressor but a pain to do sidechains.

Effectrix has great reverb. It is wayyyy better than the reverb plugin in ableton.

For filters I suggest the WOW filter from Sugarbytes. It does an amazing job. Extremely crisp.

Also the FabFilter pack has great stuff. EQ, Limiter, Compressor, Filters & more…

you were the 1 that told me about the FabFilters. I got them and now use them almost exclusively.

The EQ is freaking amazing.

I don’t like EQ3, I find it makes everything sound muddy. Am I the only one?

I use Pro Q for eq, I love this.

The Ableton compressor is good, but I also have Pro C and PSP Master Comp

I don’t like the Ableton reverb, I want 2C Audio Aether but I haven’t got it yet

I don’t think the Ableton limiter is as good as it could be. I have PSP Xeon, which is great.

I have found it easier to get closer to the sound I want using these plugs, but I am sure someone with more skill could do better with the Ableton oens.

I think you need to find the best of both worls, for example the Ableton compressor is a must if you wanna sidechain stuff. But like they do their job theres not really much else they can do…

I really like the look of fabfilter

Does anyone use reverberate?

@ant, I never use the eq3 just the eight but but will an external plug really sound different??

Ill tell you a nice plugin that will make any Reverb Unit sound good the SPL MoVerb…

The difference between the EQ8 and the Pro Q isn’t how it sounds, it is what it is like to use. I find it much nicer to use and I find it easier to get results, but I am sure you could get the same result from EQ8

The Pro Q does have some things that the EQ8 doesn’t, for example its high pass and low pass can be set to 6, 12, 24 or 48 Db per Oct and it has a liner phase option for transparency (I think that is what it is for anyway, you use it if you are self mastering apparently).

It is an odd thing because you don’t need it, but I wouldn’t be without it now.

The Pro C compressor is really good as well.
