Ableton Simpler Question

Hello

I’m sure this is a very basic question I’ve only really started to use Ableton again recently after a year or two of not touching it, so I’ve forgotten most of the stuff I learnt previously.

When I load a sample into Simpler and loop it the sample makes a popping / ticking noise when the loop starts back at the beginning. Does anyone know how to get rid of this?

Many thanks,

Rob

Most likely it’s because the loop start point is at a non zero value (ie the waveform is above or below the middle line).

You’ll need to either turn on the snap button, which will span the in/out points to a zero value, or manually find start/end points that cross the central line and use fades by turning up the fade dial.

The snap function does this for you, but can be hit and miss. The important thing is to have a decent length loop section, and zero lined start points.

This happens when the aplitude of the wave at the start of the sample and the end of the sample are at different levels. So, for example, the sample might start on the center line but finish right at the top. When the wave gets to the end of the sample it is quickly going from the top to the middle, the bigger that jump is the louder the click.

To solve it you either zoom in at the start and end and set the loop marks to be at the same amplitude, or turn up the fade knob next to the loop button.

Or better still do both.

This. I dont use snap personally, but just zoom in really close.
