So, I’ve watched the warping tutorial and it didn’t really adress this specifically… sometimes when playing a (sucessfully warped) track in ableton, it will distort in certain areas… almost like, well the best way i can describe it is it sounds like it’s been stretched out and you hear it repeat a tiny fragment of the sound, or something like that.
Simply put, I’m having trouble with sound quality.
Most of the time, the track sounds MUCH better once the warp has been turned off completely, and if I’m DJing I can’t simply turn the warp off once i’ve got the track sucessfully mixed in because it will skip to a different part of the track.
Any help would be much appreciated… you guys always know the answer, thanks so much
If the warp markers arnt correctly aligned with the beat you can get some sort of bass judder.
Most recent dance tracks should only have a warp marker at the start and end… As they are digital and running at a fixed tempo… If this is the case using repitch gives you exactly the same quality as a CDJ. Put will adjust the pitch.
If you are using a current digitall downloaded track and you have a lot of warp markers its not warped properly.
If you want to retaing the same pitch complex pro seems to be the best on material with lots of sub. Although it can sound a bit soft.
Well, a couple things-- First of all, THANK YOU, you guys are always so helpful. I have 2 more questions and I think then I’ll be a happy camper
- I noticed that when I use my external sound card, the problem lessens. It’s only when I’m playing directly from my macs audio output that I REALLY get the bass judder thing. Is this common? If so, should I re-configure my soundcard a certain way?
So, just to be safe, I also went through the mix I’m making, started over and re warped all of the tracks. The distortion has lessened significantly, but I can still hear it faintly from my mac, but it’s virtually undetectable sourced from the soundcard, enough to the point where I feel like it wont bother me when I play in clubs.
- Last thing, you mentioned complex pro having a “softer” sound. I feel that way about ableton; reguardless if I’m playing from the sound card or directly from the mac, the sound is always much better and fuller if I play the track in iTunes or Mixed in Key as opposed to Ableton. Any advice on this?
Thank you thank you thank you!
Apple soundcards are OK but a standalone card will always sound better.
Any of the timestretching algorithms in ableton will never sound as good as clean audio.
if you turn warping off it should sound identical to itunes. If its not maybe you have EQ switch on on itunes or the levels arnt matched?
