Ableton

Hey guys,br
br
This is a bit of a weird one that I wanted to discuss with you, I wondered really whether anyone may have come across something similar.br
br
Basically projects now keep crashing so I emailed Ableton and sent them crash reports. I got this response:br
br
br
"Hi Rob,br
br
thank you for contacting Ableton!br
the last crashes all happened because Live was running out of memory. The 32-bit version of Live, like every 32-bit application, can address up to 4GB memory on a 64-bit operating system and up to 2GB on a 32-bit system. It will crash when it requires more than those 4GB or 2GB respectively.br
br
At the moment I see two options for you:br
br

  1. lower the memory load of your projects for example by freezing and flattening tracks and by using resource friendly plug-ins.br
    br
  2. install a 64-bit operating system (e.g. Windows 7 or Windows 8 64-bit and then install the 64-bit version of Live. The installer can be downloaded here:br
    https://www.ableton.com/en/account/br
    br
Please note that the 64-bit version of Live supports 64-bit plug-ins, only. Please find further informations here:br

    br
    br
Now this is all very well and good but these new projects are running not br
even half as many plug ins as previous projects I’ve had over the 5-6 years br
    I’ve been using Ableton.br
    br
These projects were on my old computer and on live 8, I wondered if it was br
my computer but I’m running a much higher spec now, so then I wondered if it br
    was Live 9.br
I refuse to believe it’s that I have too many plug in’s running as I am br
running less than half as many as all projects i’ve ever had in the 5-6 br
    years i’ve been using Ableton.br
    br
Have Ableton reduced the GB with live 9 or could there be a bug/fault or br
    even a PC hardware issue??br
    br
    This is too strange guys.br

I was finding Ableton using loads of ram on my PC with almost nothing running… have a look at processes in task manager and have a look at the RAM. it could also be a particular plugin with memory leaks.br
br
We had a leak with ANA back in the early days where each instance would use way more ram than it needed to. all fixed now but there might be other plugs with the same problem.

Ok cheers mate

I had this problem. I got a new rig and every project after a certain amount of time would freeze up and crash, turned out to be the audio drivers I was using weren’t compatable with windows 8 or something on the new machine!

Interesting, that’s a good point, i wonder if it could be there. I’ve been having issues with my audio interface.

Just spent the last few hours changing Windows 7 to 64 bit and now doing Ableton 64bit, at least that gives me 4gb instead of 2gb. Will just be ‘fun’ trying to work out how to use jbridge so i can still run my 32bit plug ins.

win 64 +ableton 64bit you can have 64gb or ram i think

Max memory you can have in Windows 7 depends on which version you have. /PPStarternbsp; / Home basic = 8GB/PPHome premiumnbsp;= 16GB, /PPPro / Enterprise / Ultimate = 192GB/PPThat said you motherboard will need to support that amount of RAM too, when maxing out memory they can be picky about which sticks will work.

I’d also be surprised if you use more that 4gb of memory through ableton. Mine normally sits about 2-2.5 with a bunch of stuff goin on!
