Hi everyone, I recently bought a set of Genelec 8040’s. Amazing speaker. My room is very small and my speakers sit in the corners. I treated the corners with bass traps (home made with 5inchs of fiberglass board) I also treated the early reflection points (side walls and ceiling) with acoustic foam.br
br
Now that my room has been fairly well treated acoustic wise I am trying to find out what I should with the speaker settings. No mention in the manual if I should change the setting after treating the room.br
br
When I first got my speakers the manual advised to me tune on the bass roll off 2, and bass tilt 2. Should I keep the current settings on or turn them off now I’ve treated the room…?br
br
Any advice you can give will be greatly appreciatedbr

Room size is 6 feet 2 inches by 10 feet 5 inches. Ceiling height is approx. 8 feet.br
br
Thanks for in advance
if you want to accurately set the genelecs you need to work out what you have done with the treatment you have put in (i.e how much absorption you have put in).
I would just experiment with different settings, and see what seems to sound and work the best.br
br
Even if it takes you 4 or 5 hours of trial and error and it’s quite boring and fiddly, then it’s still time very well sent - as getting the acoustics of your room as good as possible is one of the most valuable things you can do in the whole process of production.br
br
So it’s worth investing that time - no matter how long it takes and how unexciting the process might seem!br
i want to put in some acoustic treatment in my room. But what to buy, ? is there any “start up kit”?
What do u mean by “speaker settings”? Do you mean placement? If so, just make sure they are at the same height as your ears when you are sat down. You need the distance between the speakers to equal the distant each speaker is from your ears so it should form a perfect triangle. Measure cone to cone. br
br
Try to keep your monitors away from corners and walls in general if possible.
my suggestion would be to check out the tutorial on room treatment and use room eq wizard or other tool to take frequency response measurements. you need a mic though and setup on os x can be a bit of a pain though.br
br
for my situation i learned i either needed to move my desk and speakers away from the wall; or i need to move the listener back. i ended up getting a midi keyboard tray to put the listener back and it is actually working very nice.br
br
also, i learned that my desk was causing some reflections at a particular frequency that was practically possible to avoid (i put a absorber on the desk, measured and it went away).br
br
i have a sub as well and room eq wizard helped me determine where to put it and how to tune the cross over between the 6"/tweeter monitors vs the sub.br
br
anyway, just explaining how taking measurements is the best way to optimize your setup. it’s a bit of work though…
