Adam A8X vs Mackie HR824 mk2....?

I’m looking to invest in some active monitors having been using passive Dynaudio BM5’s for the last 8 years… I’m hoping to audition some Mackie HR824 mk2’s and some Adam A8X’s soon. I’ve read great reviews on the Adams and mixed reviews about the Mackies.br
br
Does anyone have any advice on which would be more suitable for me predominantly creating Progressive house and techno? br
br
Or any other active monitors for under £1000 should I be listening to?br
br
Cheers!

i had mackie hr824mk1’s. i A/B’d them next to rokit monitors with progressive house track and i liked the mackie’s better. however, i grew out of the mackie’s.br
br
about 1.5 years ago i upgraded to focal 6be’s with a sub 6be. the mackies were great but the focals take it to another level of mixing imo.br
br
i haven’t heard adams but i’ve seen decent reviews on them…

I would try and listen to as many sets of speakers as possible./PPThe reason i say this, is speaker preference is so subjective./PPI listened to the Event Opal’s and wasn’t that impressed - even though so many people seem to say they are absolutely amazing!

Do you have a really good shop you can go to, where you can audition loads of sets of speakers?

Thanks for your replies,br

Yes, there’s a digital village in Acton where I can try out a few monitors… Of course it’s subjective in many respects but I feel I am more likely to prefer a speaker that sounds ‘good’ to me, rather than one that might be more revealing and therefore a better speaker for mixing… Definitely going to check out the Focals and Opal too.br
br
Cheers!

Im thinking of buying the Adam A7x for a while now. And they are very impressive in every review and everything. They compair the A7x to A8x in a few of them and for some reason the A7x seems to be better in almost every single way. On thomans site they have reviews on both.

I thought the Focal Twin BE’s were really nice when i heard them.

I really would love to listend to them, I have only heard great things about them and the solo. But they are EXPENSIVE !

Btw, BT has an album called ‘These Hopeful Machines’ and it has some incredible detail (especially in track 1 called ‘suddenly’). Perhaps check it out on the monitors you demo.

Ofc, if you can stretch your budget that far, i would go for “the best i can buy” with whatever budget i have! Im thinking about upgrading my speakers m audio Bx5a and my starting budget was around 500€ thinking about getting the KRK rokit 8 and now its 1k€ and problably going for the Adam A7x. br
br
, The Focal 6 twin BE is like 1500€ a popbr
They also have the Focal 6 solo for 900 € each.

After looking more into it, Events Opals just seem fu…ing fantastic!. Mby i should save up for them instead. Seems like a better solution to save up for them than to just buy a pair for 1k and in a year or two mby i want to upgrade it to a pair for 2-4 k better to just invest in them straight away then they will problably last for more than a few years!
