This track started off as Dubstep…
Then I posted up a clip on Soundcloud for advice - you can hear the original idea in the list, its called Dubstep Challenge.
After taking bits of advice from lots of places… taking bits out adding more in and changing things … it turns out that it is apparently more like Dnb with a Dubstep edge, and someone else said it sounds like it is bordering on Techstep also.
Have a wee listen and let me know what you think…
Honest opinions, good or bad, all are welcome and constructive.
I am kind of out of my depth/comfort zone with these styles as they are not my usual listening choice, but I am doing these to challenge myself, see exactly what I can or cannot do.
Thanks in advance folks.
Oh and can someone tell me what TechStep is? Lol

Sounds good mate, subtly mixed, I can definitely hear why it’s so hard to put it in a box, the hi-hat patterns are very D’n’B, but the snare patterns are very dub-step as well as most of the bass, then there are the more techy elements, I’m not so used to hearing big pads in dub-step. However it does make for a nice fusion and that’s how new genres are born and evolve. If I were to advise anything, I’d say pick your favourite element of the track and work all the other elements around it. Kind like a football team, a good strong spine with lot’s of nice supporting elements. Keep up the good work.
Nice one mate. Will take it on board, not going to do anything to it for a day or two, have a load of projects on the go of various genres, some close to finishing, including like a semi experimental techno one… I’ll be posting a samle of it later today for some advice/comments as well, because it doesn’t stick with the whole rules of techno of that speed.
Thanks again mate.
You know what they say about rules:
Rules are for fools and the guidance of wisemen! I’ll give it a listen when you post though.
Nice one, had PC power failure so have to wait for it to be returned. Will get the sample up early in the week ![]()
This is actually well put together, all the elements fuse together & work well. Dubstep can get quite boring, so this is a refreshing change.
Good stuff.
Paul
Cheers Paul
'll have it finished up and polished off by middle of the week, and it’ll be there for the taking ![]()
Finally got the crossover track finished to I’m happy. It’s up for the listen and free download in the link below, but is unmastered at the mo. I have about 4 or 5 more to finish, then I’ll send them all off for mastering… Tis cheaper!
Working at the moment on the experimental techno one I mentioned above, and should have a clip up later for thoughts or advice. ![]()
