phil johnston (23/08/2010)
have you watched the tribal tutorial? theres some ideas for making your toms aggressive. (punch them in the face?)
i know a guy called tom he has ginger hair, its true phil, he does get really aggressive when i call him ginger tom and punch him in the face.
this is why i love this site, would have never thought about doing that before you mentioned it.
multifader (23/08/2010)
Anyone have any idea how to create the aggressive perc sounds that are coming up time and again in the candy tribal prog sound at the moment?
I’ve tried taking a number of hits and Eqing them, or having HP and LP filters closed on them then sweeping open quickly and closing again.
Seems to me these sounds are characterised by a very quick pre-sound, though it doesn’t sound like pre-verb.
Any clues?

any percussion will sound more aggressive with a little bit crush or distortion. not to much though.

I second this… I tried to recreate the toms in the SHM tutorial on my own and always get somewhat close but never sounding quite right… On the high toms, they just end up sounding like short bursts of white noise…
