So, I'm new to the whole producing thing. My biggest problem in creating music is the chord progression and moving on from that. However, I have no reading music background. I have played guitar for about 4 years but I have never learned anything theory wise. So, im going to list the steps I do when I "attempt" to create a track or things I should be doing and tell me if its right or wrong.
1. Chord progression- I guess its 3 chords that play through the song. Everything is then based off of this.
2. Drums/Dance Beat- The beat of the song pretty simple.
3. Bass- I hear its supposed to be 3 parts (Mid,High, and low) in a pattern to give it a groove feel.
4. Fillers- Stuff such as Arps. That are based of the chord progression, used to give more detail in the song.
5. Sound Fx- Things that slow or speed up the track. Can also be used a fillers.
So, pretty much thats what I understand of things but Im not sure those are right.
Some questions I have:
1. The bass people say its mid, high, and low. Does that mean they are all the same notes/pattern but higher and lower octaves?
2. Is everything based off chord progression? Like can I make the bass out of the first note in the progression?
3. What chords and keys are popular in trance music? -
Thanks for any help guys. =)
There are no rules to making music. Yes keep the same key. If your track needs a different bass or a different sound, add it. They use all minor chords in most dance music.
Have you watched all the videos?
All the trance ones yes. And they are still confusing to me. Well once I get to the Stabs part. I just keep watching them over and over lol.
Dude, you gotta watch EVERY video! Why? Because they all teach you something different. Stop and watch them all this weekend and you will get a better understanding. I promise you!

100% agree… even if you don’t like the other types of music covered watch the videos they all teach you something.
+1 all I can say. Then watch them again and again if you need to
Producing music is a massive big huge thing to digest but it gets easier slowly but surely
Alright, this weekend I will get 80lbs of coffee and watch every video 8 times non stop for the whole weekend. xD
Thanks for the help guys.
