American Laws & States

I guess I could probably google this but nevermind. I was actually just thinking about american laws and remembered something about different states having different laws?

In the UK we are all governed by the same laws no matter where you are in the country, I assume that’s not the case over in the states? Are the laws not dictated by the american government but instead by each states governor (ie: Arnie @ california)? Or how does it work?

I remember watching Dom Jolly doing an american tour for a tv show he did and he said in some states that alcohol is actually illegal?

What is the history of american ‘states’ and how do i view them? Are they like mini countries within one country (america) or are they basically like what we have here in the UK as ‘counties’? Although in our counties we dont have our own laws?

Sorry bit of a political post, but randomly got thinking about it for no reason (actually that’s a lie, i only started thinking of it cos i was whistling ‘bye bye miss american pie’ randomly haha), i’d really like to know lol.

Who are those people who don’t believe in modern technology and live their lives in really dated times including the clothes they wear etc? Do they only live in one part of America? How did they come about? Is it a religion?

I’ve gotta admit there seems to be so many different cultures, believes and lifestyles in the states, i guess that makes sense considering how vast the land is, i’ve love to do some year long tour across the place sometime. Hit the road jack!

the non digital people are the Mormons.

i think texas and can be a seperate country still if they want. an old law that was never changed. something like that.

actually roben i think you’ll find that the laws in the Great Britain arn’t always 100% the same.

Are Mormons analog only?

WTF - PLEASE TELL ME THAT I CAN GET AN EMULATION ON MY UAD CARD!!!

Mormons? Do you know why they choose to live like that? Is it something to do with a religion of theirs or something?

And why do they live in that particular time period? Why not… tudor? Or caveman?! hah you know what i mean… etc.

Don’t they still carry side arms in texas?

LOL - The UK in questionable past behaviour shocker!!

haha but you know what i mean though ICN! Why that particular time period? They don’t like technology, cool ok, i THINK i can understand (actualy not really but yeah lets go with it here)… but that particular period they live in, ie the clothing etc, isn’t the period exactly just before technology existed (is it? I’m sure not).

Surely being tudors would be much more fun hehe.

No but seriously, i’m not meaning to mock, just trying to understand.

Is it a religion? If so, what is it?

But anyways, this topic wasn’t all about mormons haha.

How does the general american know he isn’t breaking the law when he visits or holidays in another state?

Because doesn’t some laws that are ‘ok’ in one state, are ‘illegal’ in another?

Must be crazy having to read up all what’s ok and not ok before visiting everyone.

It’s a shame they never taught us american history at school, a lot of it sounds really interesting and worth knowing about. I did hate history when i was at school but as i’ve grown older (wiser??) i’ve definitely a better appreciation and desire to understand ours and others past. Really fascinating stuff.

Ah yeah… I understand Rob. They aren’t living in olden times cos they like the year 1867 better than any other year. They do it out of a rejection of all things that might make them sin & sh!t.

They live frugally & conservatively cos its morally the right thing to do for their religion.

You have to balance everyone being called “Adams” & having 50 Wives with something. Actually… now that I think about it, thats Quakers, isnt it?

Mormons are the Polygamist folk who like in the massive houses in Salt Lake City. Lots of rich Mormons based on the CH4 TV shows that I’ve seen. They dont really seem to deprive themselves. Wonder what they do for $$$?

They are protesting against use of plugins and sample libraries, mp3…

one of their quotes:

“Give analog, and it shall be given to you. For whatever volume you deal out to others, it will be dealt to you in return.”

its a shame they didnt teach us american history??
how about english history??? na cos thatd be racist… such pc bs… i was taught about elizabeth I in primary school… and then everything else was about how bad the slave trade was… that was it… no wonder the nations youth have no respect or love for their country anymore. they aint been told about all our great heroes and achievements

I’ve just read this whole page and thought you were talking morons

I was taught quite alot about english history - basically all the royals were related and the fought a lot - the only history I am interested in is how normal people lived and how they stood up to their oppressores, told to fight, tax riots - fasicnating reading

I went to school in the UK for a while & I thought that your education system was poor. Now… it might have very well just been the school / teacher etc… but I was there for a year, in the last class before going into 1st year into the next school (secondary?). Was probably 11/12.

I didnt have one book or copy in my bag for the whole year… nor did anyone in the class. For history, we used to watch a TV show http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/How_We_Used_To_Live

When in Rome, you have to live like the Romans. Your identity gets lost if you dilute/erase stuff that makes you who you are.

I’m 110% all for accepting everyone into a culture, but it makes me sad when the original culture gets lost for the sake of another. Wish there was a better way of meeting everyones needs.

well no, I’m sure that if you checked all the law in the british Isles and compared them between you would find that there are a lot that are different.
