An odd favour

So I think I am ready too send out some of my tunes to labels - I have 3 just need a little fiddlibg and been given some advice from a lot of my DJ friends

However I thought I should write a bio - since I am not vary good about writing about myself could anyone leave their comments on what I have just knocked up

For example is it to wet, to modest , too short, long - well you know the score - any gramatical errors etc also welcome

[quote]Nomad Spectrum aka Paul ***** Short Bio

My earliest influences stem from the late 1970’s with the likes of Throbbing Gristle, Cabaret Voltaire, D.A.F to name just a few. And like those pioneers in Industrial Electronic Dance music I believe all sound should and can be manipulated and twisted to perform synchronization.

Having been in various bands since the 1980’s playing synth to create harmony from chaos I learnt sound design at an early age. My love of music was rekindled when I first heard the pioneers of the Detroit techno sound and there as been no looking back.

Having Djed hard techno through the 90’s and early 00’s as well being armed with an Atari with Cubase and various outboard gear I would play various chill out rooms, art galleries and performed live at the (fck it will come to me) London, for a modern dance performance.

Due to raising a young family I had to put my music production skills on halt and concentrate on other priorities. But now returned to production over a year ago and have collected a small but dedicated fan base on Soundcloud. As well as support from various online Djs.

I will be having a number of remix work released on a variety of labels, but now I believe I am ready to have my own releases. I am also concentrating on working on a live set as playing my music out has always been my main passion.

If pushed and asked what sound I now produce I would say Dark Hypnotic Space Influenced Hypnotic Techno which crosses over from the dance floor to listening at home.

Techno is about breaking boundaries

Peace

Paul

When i read it i get confused, it is a mixture of a bio and an email you send out. I can sense you are an honest man Paul and you don’t want to bull**** in your bio this is good! I’d focus on accomplishments, goals, and objectives as a musician, write in a motivational way.

I forgot to quote your text so i cannot make any specific notes

here are some tips on writing an artist bio.

Running to an exam now Mate…

Looks good… with a bit of tweaking it would be snappier…

You should leave the (fck it’ll come to me) bit in - really good

you forgot to mention that your a NUTTER

i think its ok mate

LOL

and on “The Register”

@wouterdewitte - thanks for the insight - and the link looks like a good read:)

@ICN - thats between me and my probation officer :stuck_out_tongue:

@James - no need to say I am a nutter if they actually listen to my tracks it should be self evident

most bios are written in the 3rd person… so like… Dj bingybong started out making tunes for the vengaboys… not… I love the vengaboys

Yeah they do. But I think that unless it is actually written by your PR agent it looks really pretentious if you write about yourself in the third person. I prefer first person honistly, but I understand why people go the third person route.

agreed with Ant. I’ve seen two many bios in the 3rd person over the years. They make me sick when I read the same things over and over and over again.

“DJ Mix&Scratch has known that he wanted to be a DJ since he was in the womb. His parents knew that as soon as he was delivered that he would be a DJ as he came out of his mother with a DJM800 and a pair of headphones. He’s been off to the races ever since. During the 90s DJ Mix&Scratch held down a residency at the McDonalds drive-through where he honed his skills as a beat producer when he was cooking the fries. Ever since then he’s been following DJs on facebook and twitter trying to blow the first person he can to actually give him a DJ gig. Look for big things in 2011 from DJ Mix&Scratch…”

I prefer first person. It’s more realistic. DJs & Producers don’t have their own personal narrators so why should their bios. Now if you got somebody like Morgan Freeman to do a voice-over for your Bio… that would be a cool third person overdub…

But otherwise. Keep it personal. Talk WITH people. NOT at them.

Also, do what you are good at and outsource everything else.

So unless you can write, and most people including me can’t, find someone who can. A good copy writer will make it sound considerably better than you ever could so if you can find one get them to help you out.

:w00t:  !!

Get the Wiija board out, have a sup of Toilet Duck & see what happens

Yeah got to agree 3rd person does kinda suck - trying to keep a balance of personal and profession at the same time - interesting about the copy writer too

Try getting rid of the article - The definite article - The… Indefinite articles… an… stuff like a… Verbs…

Basically just have a block of adjectives like a collage even…

But might look cool arranged in a reading sequence in a block / paragraph… lots of potentially random words to get the imagination going to tell the story.

Maybe the collage could be for something else… but the idea for a paragraph might be cool.

WTF

if your doin a bio 3rd person is the professinal way to do it and it should always be done this way.

However if you just giveing some info re yourself in a more informal way, like you do when sending demos, 1st person is fine.

WTF FTW!

I agree with go funk… always keep in mind for whom you are writing it.

Perhaps make several templates which you can update after new achieved goals. Meaning one in third person, for press releases etc. One for sending out demo’s etc…
