Was just wondering are there any vids already up that cover eqing ect on the bottom end, like ones in the sound like series. I’ve been lazy the last while and have done very little in the way of production so gonna get my arse in gear this weekend.
not really, just remember to roll off your bass frequencies on just about everything except the kick and the bass. However, even on those you might have to do it. Like always roll off below (I think its) 60hz or 50hz. You will just be wasting energy on those low frequencies.
i would say firstly use your ears and secondly use a frequency analyzer.
don’t always low cut everything for the sake of it,you’ll end up with a lifeless track, some frequencies and sounds, sound nice with a little overlap. only cut or boost if one sound is smothering another and you want them to both work together.
with low end if you cut something from one sound then a little boost on the other sound in the same frequency is usually required. for instance if you notch the kick at 200-300 hz then give the bass a little boost around the same freq to help fill the gap out.
Also remember to cut more then boost.
If you find your kick and bass battling for space in the same frequency range, look at sidechaining and/or changing your bass / kick so that they are working in different frequency ranges.
Normally use sidechaining to let the kick come to the front of the mix. Probably didn’t ask the question properly but I was talking more about getting real depth into the mix and getting a nice rounded sound on the low end.
have a listen to this tune that I made - http://soundcloud.com/le-doc/c-documents-and-settings-liamdorts-desktop-finished-wav-files-ritalin-kidz-freaks-like-us
its missing real depth.
Does reverb on the low end help?
What did you use for your bass may i ask?
Sounds like it’s just the bass you’re using, the bass itself sounds pretty narrow. You can really bring it out by working in more voices into oscillator as well as mainly using multiple oscillators to phatten it out. Also perhaps for example: Osc 1: 2 octaves down, Osc 2: 1 Octave down, Osc 3: Normal octave.
Also try modulating your cutoff, resonance and drive settings.
Try not to use reverb on your low end, however it IS ok to use the very slightest bit, just to give it the slightest bit of depth, be careful though, too much can really muddy up the low end.
There are various other techniques, but the above should really help you out for now.
By the way, i enjoyed the track, but like you said it does need ‘oomphing’ out a bit
Can’t remember to be honest, I think it might have been a filtered bass guitar sound offa hypersonic or something like that, I done it a while ago and haven’t done a thing since really.
Just got sylenth the other day so I think I might fire it up at the weekend and get a bit of oomph into the thing.

more voices is not the answer to deep rounded bass, if anything this will make less rounded. at most you want maybe 2 osc for a deep round bass.
main osc and sub osc
shameless promotion but i’m gonna put a few more videos up soon on youtube started with my bass sounds this week.
