I’ve created a bassline that i really like. I’ve resampled it on and on until i got exactly what i wanted but here is the problem. I’ve worked on it on headphones and now , when i put it on the speakers ( i don’t have monitors , hi-fi speakers ) the bass is overly powerful , so powerful it crushes your ears . I’ve tried equing , I’ve cut all the freq before 1khz with a filter, i’ve tried using different vst to spot the frequency range that needs work on and even then i couldn’t get rid of that over powered bass(with the speaker bass setting to 0 even ) . I really don’t want to loose the bassline since i really like it but i don’t know what to try now .
Any advice would be highly appreciated. If you don’t understand what is my problem i’ll post a clip if anyone interested.
So can Sonic Academy forum help a person with some good advice?

can’t you just use a filter in ableton to cutoff the low end? or if not sidechain it to your kick with a compressor.
Regular speakers are going to give you an untrue reading as to how much bass is actually there. Even with excellent monitors and a subwoofer, it is very difficult to get just the right mix. I hate having to do it this way too, but the best way is to dial in different levels of EQ from 50-150 Hz, take a log as to what the settings were for each bounce, and simply test each bounce on a regular cd player, your ipod, and perhaps in your car. Whatever one sounds best will at least get you in the ball park regarding EQ. After that, you just refine further until the version you end up with sounds good on all systems!
J
bounce it down to a short loop in a wav with your kick in another wav in a zip file I’ll give it a shot.
send me the kick and bass dry, ie no processing or fx on them.
upload the somewhere and pm me the link if you like
what have you got on them so far in terms of processing, eq and fx’s?
remember however I wont be able to mix them in terms of with your track so you may have to so a little more EQ’ing and you will defo need to mix them in terms of vol back into your track but sure I can help
I’ve done both tampa.Maybe my speakers are blasted i don’t know. Even if that solved the problem i really need to get the low end for it . I think i’m going to start resampling it all over again .
Well yeah that’s kinda what I’ve been doing Jamie. The thing is , this specific resampled sylenth part really breaks hell. Maybe i’ve over eq-ed the low end too much. Could you try the part on your speakers or something ? I don’t have any alternative listening methods excepts the headphones and the speakers . Here’s only that specific synth part http://www.sendspace.com/file/5zf5l9 it’s very obvious where the overpowered bass is
Edit :no need for mixing the part and all , i can do it myself. this is the part with no effects on.It’s only 1 synth line. I just need some advice how to fix that ear-tearing bass without having to resample all over again mostly because i forgot a few steps it’s from an older project. And a version with some effects on http://www.sendspace.com/file/roh88t
I just listened to it and put span on it. you need to EQ the fundamental frequencies.
put span on it when your playing the loop, you can seen where it peaks and where to EQ.
tried it but on the speaker the bass still hits like hell. Tried equing the 60-120hz that’s why i asked the question .I used specan. I don’t know maybe i’m a bigger bassline equing noob than i thought.
it should work mate, I just done it with my VRM box on via my headphones. VRM dont lie.
put an ableton eq on and at 96hz drop to about -12.6db with a Q of 3.32 give or take to your liking.
also you should try voxogon span, its free and will you can clearly see the hz when you put mouse over and the note that relates to the hz.
EDIT: Ah sh*t , tried on the speakers again. Kind of same problems , i'll just save some money for some proper monitors since on the vrm sounded ok.
sounds to me like you have maybe two freq clashes at the same freq and you need to get rid of one … if you need help equine just send through wavs and ill do you a vid if you want ?
it’s actually one wav only . For the synth i mean.It was resampled intensively. Probably the speaker fault. I only used 3 basic waveforms ( sine , pulse and saw ) created an sylenth patch then resampled it over and over again and arranged the audio clips. This is consolidated all togheter.
that strange mate, sound be fine after you EQ’ed it. try turning it down as well!
Haven’t heard it, but is it possible it is over compressed, causing that muddy pressure on the eardrum sensation?
