$$ apple mac's ££

For me it comes down to reliability.

I took the plunge and bought a Mac last Christmas and can truthfully say that i’ve never had it crash on me. I use a PC at work during the day and it’ll guarantee to freeze at least once over the course of the day.

At the end of the day it all comes down to personal preference. Some people try to oversell Apple products saying a Mac is the best thing since sliced bread. For me…it isn’t, but the next computer I buy will still be a Mac.

I’ve used, professionally and personally, both PCs and Macs for about 20 years now. One of my first jobs was on a mag, so we had Macs for type and layout. So, I’ve experienced the changes from the early days.

A couple of key features that helped establish Macs were the GUI and the reliability. MS Windows has done its utmost to copy that GUI. What’s made it harder for them is that they’re servicing a hardware market that is severely fragmented - hence the buggy “unfinished” nature of pretty much every new Windows OS.

Apple, on the other hand, have a stable and narrow hardware market (their own) for their OS, which helps to make it extremely stable - a key feature for me both at home and work.

Their GUI is always (and this is subjective) way better than anything Windows have had ever. Smoother, more intuitive.

3rd party software works out of the box. No weird drivers to go hunting for.

They dominate the consumer music database/organising market with iTunes. Which enables them to seemlessly integrate all their devices.

As a mac owner it makes sense for me to have an iPhone as I know it will instantly work with my hardware.

etc

I had my iphone before every1 jumped on the band wagon but it really is such an awesome device. Its not for nothing that most iphone users cant stop fiddling with the thing! The only trouble ive had with mine is when theres ALOT of people in one area and pretty much all of them have iphones so the 3G network goes under.

My mac hasnt crashed once , not even a glitch in a year and a half ive had this one !! , i was like roben before taking the plunge and have to say mac wins for just the stability alone .

Well I woke up this morning to a email from apple saying that I had ordered a macbook pro on finance so just got to send the signed papers back to them! Things I do when I have had a few…lol

Thing is I don’t like mac’s I use them everyday in college and the amount of times they crash on me is unreal and there only a few months old aswell! Granted I do push them and have about 40 odd vst’s ruuning at once with fx’s but my pc at home that has cost me £220 runs smooth as fook!

@Boneidol - Hard to believe / Dont believe that.

Bottom line. If Mac’s were same price as PC’s - Everyone would have one.

What don’t you believe?

Mac’s crash they are a pain in the a$$ for production and also word for that matter as had a few crashes while doing write up’s!

People I know who use it with ableton for live sets tho don’t seem to get these problems so aslong as that stands that way i’ll be happy. Won’t be using it for production though as got my pc for that!

I dont believe you… Why? As I find what you are saying hard to believe.

Now they’re crashing while people are typing too? Definitely dont believe you.

Well thats up to you to believe missy but only saying how it has been for me!

Mmm… Called me Missy. I believe you now

Yeah don’t get me wrong here lads, hats off to Apple products for rarely crashing (well… i say that but my ipod touch has frozen a few times and / or apps have crashed) oh and Logic 9 at College crashes for me and other class mates quite regularly, but that’s Logic.

Buuuut i’m mearly saying ‘performance to cost’ ratio wise as topic, regardless of who makes it, the amount Apple charge for their products is crazy high for this day and age of low technology costs.

Forget for a second you’ll all ‘pro mac’ and won’t hear or say a negative thiing about them, you honestly can’t sit there and say that Apple are offering their products at good value for money considering how much the hardware actually costs to manufacture.
Roben (21/12/2010)
Yeah.

Of course they’re built very well and deliver, but they’re not worth the amount they charge for it.

Something is only worth what people will pay, Imo the “La Gioconda” is a painting not worth **** but other would pay Millions, maybe Billions for it if they could.

I don’t see why people think that the only reason someone would by a mac is because apples advertising has done a job on them (only the really retarded think that), personally i got a mac after going in a studio and using one i hadn’t ever really taken any notice of them before that as i was totally in love with my pc.

For me if i had a pc i would spend more time adding to it or moding and mantanace work than i do actually using it.

PC’S are for Virgins and lads that would rather spend time testing their new graphics card than they would ***** their girl.

hows your p.c jon man ?

The only thing that annoys me about Apple is the way they try and for you to do things their way.

They obviously think they have worked out a better way of doing everything that us mere mortals just dont realise yet. Like needing flash on your phone or a keyboard on your netbook.

The whole iPad thing is a bit of a mystery to me, but then I am not a causal user - for which that product is largely aimed at I guess.

As for their straight up computers, yeah expensive, but I have had so much less frustration with this machine that I could argue that I am getting my money back in time/life.

I do find their pricing is just at the absolute tilt of what you might want to pay, to the point of annoyance sometimes (like the price for the macbook air or the iPad for example).

Don’t you think though that most (good) companies charge more for their product because these are the guys doing the R&D while the smaller companies come along and copy the product selling it at half the cost.
eggsmass tree (22/12/2010)
hows your p.c jon man ? :D
i left it at your mums after she turned me into a real man

Yeah definitely, but that’s not to say that to some degree Apple don’t also exploit the correlation that people have between quality and price.
