$$ apple mac's ££

Why are mac’s so expensive?

I want to add that I’m sorry to bring up an old topic … Again

Because they can

because they make them desirable, and mugs like me will pay it.

What’s on side onethats better than a pc of the same spec?!?

They’re shiny :stuck_out_tongue:

All show and no go lol

It’s a brand.

Take a normal knitted jumper your granny has knitted for you… worth a fiver if you’re lucky, slap on a DNKY tag and hey presto it’s now worth £90

Ahh so if I stick a mac label on my Laptop i’ll be minted

It’s one of the biggest thing in the human psychology and is used a lot in sales, called sheep factor.

People want what everyone else has, that’s why when something is popular it becomes stupidly popular, everyone wants it.

Nokia had it for years with their phones

Iphones are now like that

and with the success of iphone, everyone wants mac.

Regardless whether or not another product out there is better, cheaper, or what not.

Look at the ipad, it’s gone crazy stupid, but it certainly wouldnt have had the same success had the iphone not been as popular as it has been.

People are buying them even when they dont need / use them.

Apart from people here who use it for music and valid reasons etc, most people who have one (including iphones and macs) have one because ‘they’re popular’ and ‘everyone else has one’.

People are sheep, fact.

In all seriousness though I didn’t start this thread as a dig, just wanted to get why it is 2k for a mac

So it’s just a brand then…

Yeah.

Of course they’re built very well and deliver, but they’re not worth the amount they charge for it.

They do it because they can and they know people will pay it.

Look at the iphone, to buy it outright with no contract, it’s £450/500 (depends where you look). However you get the ipod touch and its basically the exact same thing except for the fact it can’t ring or text (not including skype here), yet you can pick up an ipod for £150.

So basically you’re paying 3x as much for the ability to call / text people.

If ipods were as wanted as iphones are, then they too would be more expensive.

Countdown to Rob putting a Mac sticker on his bum, with a hole cut out for the worm…

5, 4, 3, 2…

[quote]Roben (21/12/2010)[hr]Yeah.

They’re build well and they do deliver, therefore they’re worth the money!

The difference in price is significant, but if you take every thing in to consideration is not that big.

Yes, but despite what you’re implying people are not idiots, they buy it because it’s a good product!

No, the price of the item is dictated by the fact that it’s a device intended for use ‘on contract’ and to be sold to networks, not directly to consumers

Apple sold roughly twice as many iPods than iPhones

what is everything to take into consideration though?!?

Here is my experience of it

when I was looking at high-end laptop last year, the price difference on hardware was roughly about 20%-25% maybe. A lot of PCs are made to look powerful on paper, but open any magazine with benchmarks, to find out how big the differences are between items with the same spec.

It came with software for backing up data, quite important for me and it was free.

It worked with Traktor PRO after about 20 sec of setup, no DSP spikes, switching off software, etc …no hassle.

Same goes for Ableton and the system in general.

After a year in heavy use, it’s still just as fast and reliable. No wasting time on fixing things.

I was a ‘PC’ for 15 years before and It wasn’t an easy decision to spent that much money, but I don’t regret it. It’s pleasure to use.

But don’t get me wrong, it’s not going to be the same for every user.

If you need a computer just for email, than you really are paying premium for the logo.

But if you need reliable system for work/pro-hobby than it’s no brainer.

Great points Sean. That should be quoted in evey Mac Vs. PC thread.

Very well put.

Yeah cool and valid points Sean, but you did kinda agree with what i was trying to say:

The same goes with the other apple products, why by a iphone when all you do is ring and text? I know a few people who literally only do this with their iphones…

Anyways, you definitely can build a top spec PC that runs faster and smoother than a mac for cheaper than what they charge for a mac. Even RAM upgrade on purchase for macs they bump a ridiculous extra in cost when RAM isn’t that expensive.

Runs smoother? What, like a baby’s bum? :stuck_out_tongue:

No-one in their thrifty right mind buys extra HD’s or Ram direct from Apple. They are not special or hard to find / buy or install. Most people with souls would buy & install these bits themselves.

I really don’t get your point here? Because it’s a very well designed phone, that looks well and works well. You remind me of people that insisted that computers are for programers…

It’s a cool gadget, a nicely designed object. It’s like asking why would you wanna a pretty girl, when an ugly one can do the same thing?!

Surely as an artist you do appreciate things on other levels then just their utilitarian function?

I don’t know about that, I haven’t tried. Perhaps you can, but why would you?

Without a doubt Apple prices aggressively to the top end of the market, but they have a rang of good products to back it up with. As ICN said people are not daft.

They adopt and use their devices the way they want, look at jail-breaking/Cydia scene on iphone/iPads.

I know alot of people say your paying for the brand etc etc. I think this is bull****, Mac just delivers quality time and time again. If the Macs were **** and didnt work very well it wouldnt be as popular a brand as it is. Look at Mac pre Ipod it had a little niche like cult following. It took people a long time and a few innovative products to realise just how good Macs really are.
