Automating the Master Tempo

So ive been working on a dutch house track and in the main breakdown I made sort of a nice reggaeton section with dem bow drum beats, saxaphones, strings etc. The only problem I had was that at 126BPM it sounded a bit rushy and just didnt feel right. Now ive heard tracks where they seem to speed up and slow down in different sections so I thought I would try to subtley lower the tempo and bring it back up again.

To my ears ot sounds great, nothing is too sudden or weird and most importantly the reggaeton break has a lot more groove and swing to it.

My question is, does this technique of automating the master tempo done by the proffesionals or is it frowned upon in dance music? I mean for a dj wanting to beatmatch and mix it shouldnt make a difference should it? I mean the main parts of the track including the outro are running at a steady 126. I just wasnt sure if messin with the tempo can do unknown damage to the overall track and these songs ive heard where stuff slows down are just the producer programming everything in half time? But ive tried that and it sounds kinda weird.

But if messin with the tempo is ok if it can be subtle, then I feel a whole new world has opend up in terms of usiny samples and bits of music etc for remixes. Theres a lot of great acapellas out there that are very slow in bpm and would be crazy to timestretch, mabey this is an easier way?

its probably okay for breaks and stuff in the middle of the track but definitely not okay for intro/outro… that would really screw with people

If the DJ is mixing by ear it will make his life difficult especially if the tempo change is subtle (ie he doesn’t know it is there). He might want to mix on the break, which is common, or he might be checking the tempo with the new track during the break - that will really **** up his mix.

If the DJ is using Traktor then the system could have a lot of issues calculating the speed of the track, or it might be fine - but you still can’t mix in the break.

I think you should look for another solution that doesn’t change the tempo.
