Bass lines

how does everyone get on with making bass lines.i find it really hard to get any where near the sound i have in my head or from other tunes i base my ideas around.

i spent a good 3 or 4 hours playing around with pattens and sounds and when i did get something i was reasonably happy with i find i cant make a lead or synth sound right with it.

how do some of you go about making your bass line ???

these are a few examples im looking at trying to making and at fail massivly.

i usually find that if a bass sounds good or Big on its own it will sit bad in the mix, stick to something basic (synth wise) to create the bass sound. also spend a bit of time thinking about what style of music it is that you want to make and if the bass needs to be a deep sub bass or harmonically rich saw or maybe a bubbly squelchy square. compression is a big part of getting a tight sounding bass as is eq. i am no expert but i do like working with bass sounds and if i was only say one thing about it it would have to be less is more (like most things with dance music)

Jon has hit the nail on the head really.

If you’re finding you’re having real issues with baslines, try listening through a few different types of tracks and seeing how other producers have implimented their basslines. You’ll find with tracks that have more of a lead synth or vocal, the bassline isn’t usualy as complex, where as those where the bass line is more, everything else is less. It really comes down to whether you know if you’re going to lead the track with the bass or with other elements.

Taking time out to really listen in at different producers is gold.
