Hey there,
I watched a tutorial here on Sonic Academy (the big room house for Ableton tutorial) for about 3 days ago which was about getting the toms to fit together with the chords.
Now, I struggle ALOT with this. With percussions in general, to really fit the chords perfectly. HOW DO I DO? I checked the video, but in the video the tutorial guy basically changes the whole rythm of the chords just because of the percussions. How do you guys do this to make it sound tight? I SO much need a deeper tutorial on this! As well as I’d LOVE to see some drum fills and effect fills tutorials in the beats, I really want my beats to be smashing tight, with cool effects and lots of fills so it seems interesting. I need all tips I can get here, I tend to really love the bongos in the lowend, on syncopation beats, so it’s kinda groovy.
PLEASE help with this!
or atlest some in-depth tutorial about this instead of just looking at it quickly. This technique really makes the whole beat sound so much better. I’m having big troubles with this… or if anyone could link me another tutorial about it or give a helping hand. Please?
Thanks!
The process is really… A fine tuning thing.
- If your are un sure if it sounds right then change it. (if in doubt chuck it out)
- You wont get something that sounds right with out experimenting.
- Shorted your loop to 1 bar
- Play around with different rhythms, notes/pitch, and samples
- Create 4 different options - have a 10 min break come back and pick the best one.
- Carry on with your track - if its still not totally geling start the process again.
Your brain can play tricks on you if you are really focusing in on the same rhythm over and over. Try to focus on listening to things as a whole.
what Phil says!
Seriously, I started a track two days ago. First of all I chucked out the bassline as it was too slow, now I’m chucking out the rest of the beats barring the kick cos the rhythm is just dragging the pace of the track down. Sometimes it’s like that.
phil I really would appreciate a tutorial on this! these are some really good tips and tricks which can be applied to several other things in the track as well. I might be slow, but for me (and I think for others too), it would be a great help! Eventhough it’s simple, it’s really good to see those tricks in action by another person.
Thank you so much!
