Becoming the ONE or Promotion the Swedish way!

I’ve found this overview of how SHM got to number one spot on Beatport with their single One. Really interesting!

One of the highlights is that statement from Beatport CEO: 'We get between 7,000 and 15,000 new releases a week’

Pure contempt. If you give them money, they think you’re an idiot.

?

an interesting read mate

Their advice though is kind of redundant in that they claim that SHM’s promo methods are open to anyone. Well, you do need a certain following and a certain amount of cash to do what they did. So, really, it’s a good anatomy of promotion for artists of a certain level but certainly not for everyone of lower levels.

yeah you right, but it shows the process

I don’t agree with all of this and clearly it is written from Beatport’s standpoint, but social media are free tho and I believe that many principles can be applied elsewhere

For artist that are starting out it shows the importance of building ‘following’ and how it can be used for promo

aye, that’s true enough

defo take note of the social network part tho, I highly recomend people get a fan page, twitter etc. takes a while to build up followers but at least when u do get that track released u’ll have a head start…

on that note click below and follow me!!!

Interesting article. Also might be worth noting that SHM had already achieved an element of success and that the social networking angle is an added promotional extra. This seems to be the point some of you are missing.
