Beginners guide to music theory - rhythm

Hello

I really enjoyed the tutorial, but how does the bassline fit the drums ?

Should the bassline have some connection to the drum beat? If it should, when is it okay to break these rules? He seems to avoid bassline on kick. Ive always thought you should do the oppposite.:hehe:

I noticed that he moves the bassline a 16th note to make it more interesting.

Best regards,

Stefan

hi stefan,

theres no rules to break really.

if you want an offbeat bassline then drop it in after the kick drum. - and obviously if you want one to land on the kick drum that is fine as well.

the only thing you need to watch is the kick drum clashing with the bass or vice versa. this can be fixed by using side chain compression
