Anyways needless to say 2 months on and we’re still waiting for even a penny…
Solicitors letter still hasn’t resolved anything.[/quote]
First off, you should have had a contract, then it’s just a matter of small claims court, job done.
Secondly you should probably not be talking about this on a public forum if it’s potentially going to court!
You should call in a few bomb threats to his bar on a Friday night, peak time

Awesome, my old stomping ground, many years ago!
Oceana…
Chav heaven
Regarding label contracts… Like many businesses in this world there are unscrupulous people in the music industry. I’m all for the DIY approach but think trying to be a lawyer is stretching that a little too far. Therefore I’d suggest if you are on a budget signing up to the Musicians Union and getting some free legal advice on contracts or if you have more money to get a music lawyer to look over your contracts. To put things in to perspective with both contracts I have signed with Defected I paid a music lawyer to protect my interests on the contract. The percentage of lawyer against advance was approx 30%
And BTW, a record deal isn’t the holy grail any more, seriously… the industry is changing and I wouldn’t be surprised if we are looking at something totally different in five years time. For a small percentage the label deals work - but for a lot of people they’d be better off setting something up themselves IMO.
