Best place to upload a video?

Hey guys whats the best place to upload a video, i finally got round to doing a quick tutorial and would like to know if there are any places to upload so that you can all stream the video.

To the sonic academy team:

It must take so much practice to get used to doing these videos, mine is so simple but this still took me 5 attempts. every time i hit record did either the phone ring or someone knocked at the door, when it finally goes ok my mic decided to break up and i also started forgetting what i was trying to say.

The most obvious choice would surely be Youtube.

So Jon any chance of letting us know what the video contents are before the upload?

basically its just using simpler to create a granular type time stretch (or at least that was how i was taught it back in college)

i’d agree with krome i think youtube would be the obvious one :slight_smile:

i’ve never heard of anyone using anything other than youtube to upload videos… looking forward to seeing the vid:D

havign a few problems with the youtube video, basically it uploaded and processed but for some very strange reason its removed all of the audio from me speaking but not the audio thats coming from my DAW.

i’ve checked and double checked the video plays fine with all the audio intact so i don’t understand why its doing this

Jon,

did you use camtasia studio by chance?

it sounds like the audio narration was on a separate channel which wasn’t correctly processed by youtube.

That being the case it may pay to re-encode it prior to upload using something like Super video (free video encoder). Just to squash it all down into stereo.

Looking forward to the video.:cool:

hey found out the problem. when i recorded the video i had it set up for mono 22.050 Khz for the Mic and 44.100 Khz for the video input from ableton.

thanks krome i’ll try and find a converter for mac and see if i can do something with this video.

if all else fail’s i’ll upload the video to a share folder so that those who want to see it can just download.

Jon any update on the upload yet?

Was kind of looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

Might as well keep the momentum going.:smiley:

i was going to re record the video as i can’t seem to get it working on youtube due to the way i recorded it plus i sound really bored doing this. i’ve not had chance as yet

please take into consideration that i have only been using ableton for around 3 months and feel free to poke fun at my accent http://www.sendspace.com/file/9y43bf

Hi Jon,

I am not gonna take the piss out of your accent …anyway I just had a butchers hook :smiley: at your video. Actually its not bad.

At first I tried playing it via VLC (videolan for the pc) and the commentary was missing.

Anyway it played fine within qucktime so I spent a little time investigating what could be causing the problem.

As you say any attempt to upload via youtube results in pretty much the same thing.

I could be wrong but I think the choice of audio codec (IMA 4.1) used to originally compress the tutorial isn’t totally compatible with youtube’s conversion widget and it would seem several other conversion utilities I have.

As an experiment I recoded the tutorial uploaded it to a private youtube page and it played without any sound problems.

I’ve pm’d the link and if you want I could upload the converted vid to a sendit account or whatever where you could re-up it to your own youtube account.

Obviously you mentioned you may re-do the vid but the works done if you want.

I suppose in future depending on the program you originally used you could lookout for the audio output codec and avoid IMA 4.1 like the plague and stick to the recommened settings as listed below.

Best Formats for Uploading

YouTube can accept almost any video format for upload, but for most users we have found that the following settings give the best results.

* Video Format: H.264, MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 preferred

* Aspect Ratio: Native aspect ratio without letterboxing (examples: 4:3, 16:9)

* Resolution: 640 x 360 (16:9) or 480 x 360 (4:3) recommended

* Audio Format: MP3 or AAC preferred

* Frames per second: 30

* Maximum length: 10 minutes (we recommend 2-3 minutes)

* Maximum file size: 1 GB

Hope it helps.

Right must go coz I can adam and eve the time. :smiley:

hey thanks that would be great if you could upload as i am on limited internet at the moment.

im very paranoid about the way i sound, ive been stabbed in the face had my jaw broken twice and i also have a misshaped bottom lip from when i used to fight. so if you add that to a norfolk accent it doesn’t hold well for speaking the queens english lol.

anyway i hope you liked the video and once i get better with live i’ll add more as i learn

lol

and there was me thinking you were a cockney.

I know what you mean about being paranoid about anything being uploaded be it music, photos etc its still out there for judgement.

Big ups for uploading I am sure the more times you do it the easier it will get.

thanks for the feedback. i hope this encourages others to do their own and we can really all start to work toward a members video section on the forum
