Best practice bass frequencies?

hi guys

just wondering if anyone could give some advice\shed some light on bass frequencies?

i’ve got a track i’m running the bass at 96hz through waves rbass and it sounds real muddy. now to start it is probably due to the amount of filter i have put on it, but the notes are sitting at D3 on the keyboard so it’s not exactly too low of an octave on the scale.

any input is appreciated

rather than trying to boost the bass why not try a low cut to remove some of the sub bass, this should let more of the body from the bass through the mix and lift the over all power and depth of the bass.

hey jon

long time no speak hope you’re well.

i’ve got a lp24 filter on the bass note with the freq at 231, i do sometimes transpose a sample too just to raise the overall feel of it.

i have a feeling i could also be getting this muddy sound as i duplicated the bass channel, when disabling one of them its gone and the bass is more crisp. just need to amplify it a bit more to help bring it into the mix

don’t think i’ve ever used a low pass filter on a bass set that low before lol (but that would depend on what you wanted to achive.

most of the energy from your bass should be around 200 to 400 hz

sub bass around 80 to 30 hz

i think you may be causing the mud with the filter set so low

ok cool thanks for that, i guess i’m trying to achieve quite a low-ish dark sound. rather than a happy high noted bass sound if that makes sense.

when you said 'most of the energy from your bass should be around 200 to 400 hz ’ do you mean those approx settings for the filter or for rbass?

i’ll hit you up on msn bud so i can listen to what you are doing before giving you totally the wrong info lol
