Better value Sylenth or Logic Express

I currently use Ableton Live 8 and REason 5 as a rewire to make tracks, mainly remixes and mashups.

I want to get more into making main room house an nu disco(Grum, Boys Noise) and was planning to buy Sylenth based on its versatitlity. I think Reason and Ableton give me enough other tools on a production front.

However watching some other videos and reading posts I’m am wondering if Logic express may be a better investment for the synths and FX that come with it as well as obviously this “sound quality” benefits that some people say come with Logic.

I know that one is a synth and other a sequencer but I was thinking more from a value for money point of view. What is holding me back are two things

  1. Are 3 sequencers overkill as I quite like Abletons work flow

  2. Is logic Express enough for dance production or is the pro version essential ?

Any opinions welcome (also if there are better synts for genres I am looking at)

Ps. I realise this may be in the wrong forum but found a bug on the forum that when I delete a topic it logs me out of the site ?

Theres loads of cool Synths etc… in Express.

The only real difference to Pro is the likes of Space Designer & Delay Designer, Amp Designer, some limiters, surround sound (AFAIK) and Sculpture  (a synth).

3 Seq’s is probably overkill if you like what you have from a music creation POV. You could do rewire - but I think it would be more of a hinderance learning a brand new DAW.

Up to you. Check out the ES2 synth… Thats the most feature rich synth in Logic. Its 3 Osc. Probably lots of vids on YT. I find it a bit complicated & if you look at some screenshots you’ll see what I mean. Its deep though. I think Sylenth is “easier”.

I use Logic & love it. But you’ve already got a lot of stuff there already mate. Dont fck up your workflow if theres no problem. You can only decide wether you want to try something new with all the extra fx etc… cos you arent happy with your current DAW’s results. The workflow between Logic & Live are totally different.

The FX are more “serious” or old fashioned in Logic - where I think Live’s are more instant & creative. Theres not an X/Y in sight. I wish that you could buy Lives fx as AU. It’ll never happen, but at least I said it!

Anyway… after a while, you will possibly want to upgrade to Pro. So there will be no end of spending money! LOL

I think you should get Sylenth Mate if you wanna buy something…

thanks for the quick feedback, i used cubase and Sonar in the past and didn’t get very far with them.

Live as been a bit more intuitive for some reason coming from a DJ point of view.

First things first, you have ableton 8 why would you even be looking at any other sequencer!!! Lol! Next id definately get sylenth, my experiences with lite or express editions of sequencers arent very good ones. You see the people that make these sequencers are very clever and will leave out key things that you will inevitably need and will always make you upgrade to the full version. Example when i started many years ago i got the light edition of fruity loops what i didnt realise is that this version didnt include automation so they got me and i had to upgrade. Save your money its the same as all these people that buy things on credit or pay off monthly installments its so ridiculous because if you put away the money you would pay out monthly you could just purchase something directly with no worry about getting into debt. But people in this day and age are sooooo 'oh i MUST have this now otherwise my life will undoubtedly end!!!

Totally agree with all of that Jan.

One thing I’d like to add for anyone thinking about buying something in the future - is that Logic Express is not like the Lite or LE versions of other daws.

Its Exactly the same… give or take.

Only real difference is that it doesnt have its kick *** convo reverb - or - multitap delay designer… Mainstage, the Live Performance thing, some other wave editor (cant remember the name now) and Sculpture (a synth so mental, that you probably wont use it.) & surround sound.

Apart from that - you wouldnt know the difference. Apart from the price.

Thats the difference between Intro / LE or Lite versions & Logic Express. No limit on tracks, Plugins etc…

BUT _ BUY SYLENTH. STICK TO LIVE.

Ok then mate i didnt know that. But what i will add is that ive heard and seen alot of good things about the space designer and mabey that alone is worth the extra cash (im not sure what the price difference is). But its nice to be able to do that a DAW can do and having it available at yoir fingertips without any worries in the back of your mind about having to shelve out more money. If you want to get into logic then thats great mate its an awesome program used by many many proffesionals. But be patient and save up and get the full version so you can get everything out of it. Mabey if i had a bit more money when i started out i mighta been able to buy a Mac and get into logic but i still firmly believe on a PC, Ableton is the dogs bollox plain and simple. I would even go as far as saying that its a very competant competitor for Logic and its gonna be interesting to see how these two programs develope and who comes out with some breakthrough features. Even though i have a Mac now and im a huge fan, i still choose to use Ableton simply because i know it in and out, and when i say that i probably only know 60% of the full cababilities but it works best for me. Converting to logic would be treason, ive actually fallen in love with ableton and im gonna shoot myself now straight after posting this lol!

thanks for the advice, I have an iMac as I’m a designer by trade but I think Sylenth may be the way to go.

I also have been impressed with the sound quality of the Reason 5 synths that I can rewire in so I have enough to go on.
