Buying new pc for music production

im bout to buy a new pc and am gonna go the pre-made route as i want to spend my time making music rather than playing around with my computer

thinking of going with inta audio http://www.inta-audio.com/

does anyone have any experiences with them or a similar company?

am thinking bout staying 32 bit due to the increased cost plus everything works with 32 bit and some stuff wont with 64, whatcha all think?

No idea with that company dude, haven’t had any experience from them, just wanted to say though…

ignore all the forthcoming predictable posts saying ‘get a mac instead blah blah’

Hi Guys

I used to go digital village for computers but when i purchased a new one from them last December it was awful! It crashed all the time and it didnt even support my firewire audio interface because they didnt fit the correct card or something anyway i came across Inta Audio (recommend by friends) and i have to tell you im so so pleased.

I purchased the Intel i5 and its works a dream with my focusrite saffire

Dont quote me on this but i think i spoke to a guy called Jamie or James but he was really helpful in understanding my needs.

i hope this helps

This has to be SPAM!

1st post - and, my friends said this other company were absolute Legends!

Jamie or James - LOL - Must be genuine!

Ignore.

ha shame as if only they were as on the ball with answering to an email that i sent to their sales team

i would go with 64bit, get it out of the way. youre probably going to spend alot of money so you may as well get something thats going to be a little bit future proof.

use google and find out what works and what doesnt, most new stuff does work. i have vista 64 and dont have any problems. when i first got 64bit my audio interface did work so i sold it on ebay and got one that did work.

if this computer is really only going to be dedicated to music production …as also in my setup …then you should build your own …

it doesn’t matter what name it say’s on the box …its whats you put inside that counts

just make sure you have 2 important things …a really good motherboard & sound card

processor …memory …disk space .all that …i think is obvious

my major gripe is that i would have to use vista, i know i’m sounding like an ungrateful child here  but it would have to be windows 7 i guess, ideally wanna stay with xp, can it go up to 4 gig ram?

im not going mac, already got a macbook but my desktop will always be pc, workflow is quick for me

I would totally recommend you building one yourself as it is very easy. I am in the process of building my own soley music PC too but I need to budget so far I have my eye on the following:

Intel Core i5 650

MSI H55M-E33

4GB 1600MHZ

As for the ram issue XP32bit will reconise 3.2gig also under 32 a program will only run 2gigs of ram. Personally I run my work computer on XP with 4gig of ram and never had any issues. Oh I am no expert BTW

So you may want to upgrade to Win7 64bit (keep away from Vista as it eats ram the same way as homer simpson eats donuts)- but make sure all your vst plugins are compatable

Just research and make sure you buy for future proof

You can get something called ‘bare bones’, which is the computer case with motherboard, processor and heatsink.

Then you add the power unit, CD Drives, Hard Drive, RAM, GFX, Soundcard (if you choose, remember mobos do have their own in built but if you will need one ideally for music production, i’d recommend the audiophile 2496).

This is what I did and basically ended up building a top range PC for around £600, you will need to buy your Windows too and I’d definitely suggest Windows 7, i have it and it’s the best windows to date.
