I am looking for active studio monitors that works really good with more or less all music genres but must have a good clear bass.
Right now i have Fostex but not really happy with them.
I know many people like Genelec, Adam and Dynaudio and i think i would like them to but i don’t have the money.
Am looking for less expensive ones but not crap of course.
Do someone have good tips what to look for? If you know monitors that are not active but better please write also. Just want the best for the money i have.
Don’t need to be new ones, max 800 euro.
Thanx

KRK
KRK VXT8. For a little over a grand (US) they can not be beat. Especially for dance music. Incredible lows and mids.
Every week we get this same question on this forum, i’m thinking it might be worth putting up a stickie thread with some advice on studio monitors.
Who else agrees?
Get the Event Opal speakers (if you can afford them)
Thanx! I will check krk.
I am interested also in yamaha and see if they have second hand dynaudio or adam speakers.
Many speakers that are good don’t go down more then 45-50Hz maybe thats not a problem but i would like to hear the deeper bass.
Is it better to have a sub bass with smaller near range speakers then full range speakers only?
And roben >> Maybe its good to do that. Have a really good review also on different speakers.
i have the yamaha’s. i wouldn’t recommend them for day to day use. im keeping mine, but only as a reference speaker, set up in ns10 mode
i’ve recently decided to buy new speakers and it doesnt matter how much you read, you need to go and listen to them
everyone recommends KRK, but ive read so many bad things about them im staying clear.
2.1 is better than just buying 8" speakers
make sure you buy the speaker for the size of the room, not the frequency they go down to. buy a sub to cover the lower frequencies. or use a set of good headphones to check that little (important) area
for 800 euro you could buy a great set of 5" monitors and then save some money to buy a sub at a later date
one last comment. dont buy them to be good at a specific type of music, it doesnt work like that. if you want good speakers that will compliment a specific genre, you might as well spend the money on hi fi speakers. monitors are for hearing what is happening in the given frequency range, not for knocking the pictures off the walls

8" speakers are better to give you a better bass/sub response (apparently) however mine are a 6.5" and i do get a good low end for the price i paid for them, being they’re budget speakers. Alesis M1 Active Mk 2.
I do love them, obviously I want the Event Opals though.
Arn’t the KRK’s 6"?
I would recommend a 5 to 6.5 inch monitor maybe with a sub (only for when you want to check the lows) and a pair of HD headphones.
roben you must be kidding about those monitors, a friend has a set and i gotta say for that price i was not impressed and in my honest opinion wouldn’t rate them as a great pair of monitors. you could probably argue that they are better than the krk but not to my ears and very much not worth the extra £2k. if you have that kinda cash there are much better monitors.
personally i have the Alesis Monitor One Mk2 and would not recommend them, but the be fair if it sounds great on the Alesis it will sound great on anything. they are a very hard set of monitors to work with if you ask me.
i’ve also had the M-audio BX8 Deluxe A and i would recommend them but for dj-ing and not production.
the krk aren’t with out their own problems but out of all the monitors i’ve heard and i different set ups they just work, not perfect but very good for the price
If you got about $500-600 USD to spend(for the pair), I highly HIGHLY recommend the Mackie MR8’s. That’s what I’ve got and I’ll never look back. Catch stuff all the way down to 40Hz with those puppies. Haven’t had a need for a sub since. And, they have an adjustable amp on the back. I keep mine at half power on the amp and they shake the whole freaking house. VIrtualy no color to them either. They are about as flat as they come, so you know your getting a true sound. Some of the other monitors mentioned in this thread I’ve found to be a bit bright for my liking… Just my two cents, but these things are the shiza!

Thanx >> Inch Lo, Roben, Jon_fisher.
I will not focus on the low end on the speakers then and try to find a really good one instead maybe get a sub later.
You all talk about good headphones. I have AKG K-271 MKII. But think i can find something better.
Do you have some tips about that?
Akg has not so much bass at all but thats maybe good for headphones?

good call
i know that they are widely considered as dj-headphones but the sony 700’s are a great pair of headphones for studio use and from a few of the future music videos and other sources i think you’ll find there are a few big producers that would agree with me. the AKG to my understanding are very good for vocalists
Each to their own mate.
I like my m1 actives. Would i recommend them? Well sure, however my best advice would be to go down to an audio store and listen to some monitors and see which you prefer.
After all, one mates turd is another mans treasure.
re: headphones.
I have the v700s, they’re very good! Although lately i’ve been using my housemates sennheiser hd25s and really cant stop using them. Think i prefer them to my v700s now, infact… i’m pretty sure of it! Again, just try out both and see which you prefer.

i love my Monitor Ones but couldn’t recommend them
Hey Roben, why would you recommend really expensive monitors? Have you heard them or are you just going off of what CM or FM has to say. I think these are overboard and not what the OP is looking for. You don’t need alot of money to make hit songs.
To the OP. I like KRK for monitors and Senheisers for headphones. I own both and I love both.
Yeah down audio store, beautiful. Love them ![]()
I wouldnt personally recommend them unless I have used them extensively. Hearing monitors one time to me, doesn’t show their versatility and range. They also have a different warmth once they have been worn in.
And, there are alot better ones for ALOT less.
IMHO.
That’s cool guys, each to their own ![]()
