hi guys I am trying to make some prog house and I usually start with a chord progression as my lead sound but then comes a problem I watched your muic theory bassline to chords tutorials and they are great but I want to make diferent basslines to the chords basslines that have some notes that dont fall in the chords notes .is it possible?I know 8note basslines work but other than that I cant figure out any…
its all about staying in the same KEY as your chords.
You dont want to just copy your chords for bass lines. The best thing to do at this moment, would be to use the ROOT note of your chords (the bottom note usually) and make that your note for your bass lines. you could use the root note of the chords and come up with a cool/unique bass pattern that plays with the chords. doing this would ensure that you stay in key.
if you want your bass lines to be different from your chords, you need to know the key your playing in.
practice that first and then try to go wild with it.
so for example: if I have a Cmin-Gmaj-Emin chord progression (just 1 bar) I can make a bassline like c-c-c-g-g-g-e-e-e? and for example when I have the Cmin chord I can just use a note from this chord in the bassline until the next chord ?for example:
Cmin -Dmin - Amin (chord progression, just 3 chords)
D# -D# -D -D - C -C -C(bassline for the chords)
will this bassline work?I hope I am being clear on the explanation:P
ps:I know keys and chords well
