I wanted to know how important it is to start with chords when producing. I am some what of a beginner in producing and I have made tracks that did not have a certain chord proggresion and the track came out pretty good. I do find myself all over the map trying to find goods sound to put in the track and sometimes this takes a while. Should I start with a group of chords and work around them to build my track? And does all good trance tunes have a basic set of chords in the track?
Thanks so much,
Rod
this poll doesn’t have too many options, I like your idea of democracy ![]()

Don’t know if this will help or not, but there’s a nifty little app on the iPhone called ‘Pro Chords’ that lets you put in a chord, then it shows all the possible related chords that could follow it. Once you selected this, the program then sifts new chord progressions based on the ones you already put together. Once you’re happy with your progression, you can export the sequence as a MIDI file which you email to yourself then drop straight into your DAW. Its not bad for a little £3.49 program! ![]()
O’ I see you want me to listen to your music on soundcloud?
