Classifying a set/mix

At least for me, nowadays its kinda hard to stay on one genre through a set. I just created a new mix. Its been like 5 years since I put out a full length set.

I bounce around from Electro, Tribal, Techno, Progressive. I guess technically its all house. I dropped in a house forum and they said it wasn’t.

Not looking to plug my mix so I wont post a link unless you need a reference. I’m looking to label my mix accordingly and maximize where and who listens to it. For instance in Soundcloud, you have the option to label your mix. I think it can really make or break the number of listeners.

Anyone else run into this issue?

Hey, try thinking about people searching for your ‘style’ of music,

what terms would they use?

What do you search for when looking for music?

Maybe you mixed a big track, so perhaps you could call it ‘Track Title’ Inspired Mix?

…or something along those lines.

Because, at this stage the point is to get people to listen to it so you need to give them something they could relate to.

I think it is fine to bounce around between genres, in fact I think it is preferably as long as the tracks work together well.

What I tend to do is put in the genre box all the main genres covered, so for example I might put House / Tech House / Electro House that way you are giving as much info as possible, and you are more likely to get listens from people that like that range of styles.

Also link your mix, I don’t think anyone will mind on this forum and some people might like to listen to it.
