Clipping after mastering

Hello Phil, I have an odd problem. After I am done with my mixdown, I have overall -5, -6 DB on the master without any plugins and then I bounce the mixdown to 48K 24 bit Audio file to have a quick master.br
br
While mastering, everything is fine but once I bounce my audio down to 44.1k 16 bit with dithering, when I put the new master audio file to ableton, I see clipping occurs on the master now, and when I check the waveform, I can see slight clipping/distortion on the kickdrum? the waveform goes above the ceiling for a small section?br
br
What would be the cause of this? Any ideas?

Why are you going to 16 bit…, unless you are planning a cd release you should keep it at 24bit.br
br
Bit rate is the vertical resolution of the file so in 16 bit it will fine the nearest point which might higher than in 24bit and could push it over.

Why not? Isn’t that the final part of mastering you go down to 16bit, 44.1k with dithering as your last plugin?br
br
I need to get the tracks in a cd to play on CDJs later on?

sorry i forgot people still use CDJs.br
br
Yeah that is the correct procedure.br
br
If in doubt just notch the master fader back 0.2db
