I have been struggling to stay motivated when making music the last few weeks. I seem to be starting alot of stuff and not finishing it which is beginning to annoy me.br
br
I was thinking of ways to give me a bit of inspiration and push through and came up with this…br
br
Get a few people involved where we take a vote on a particular genre of music (doesn’t have to be something you normally make - the fact that it’s something different could be seen as a challenge and a way to learn come up with new ideas).br
br
We then give ourselves a couple of days to put a track together based on said genre. Everyone then posts their finished track on the board for everyone to listen to. We then take a vote on who made the best track, and everyone involved then get’s the project file for the winning track and has to remix it. But here’s the catch, before we remix it, we take another vote for a different genre of music and have to produce it in that style.br
br
I see a few benefits from this. First of all, chances are that you may end up producing a genre different to what you normally produce. Being outside your comfort zone sometime pushes creativity and leads to better things. br
br
Setting a time limit also gives you a kick up the arse to get something recorded. When i entered the Ableton ‘Beat The Clock’ comp i had 24 hours to remix a track and came up with one of my best productions yet and came runner up.br
br
Knowing that there are some good quality producers on here, if they were to get involved, chances are they would have a good chance of having their track voted as being the best. The good thing here is that when their project file is sent to everyone to remix, it gives the less experienced producers (and experienced producers for that matter) an insight on how sounds are created and things are structured, which would be an invaluable learning tool.br
br
In the second part of the challenge you will be doing a remix which is an art within itself, so i think some good skills good be taken on board here and put to use in future projects that you may wish to take on.br
br
One of the main benefits of doing this is creating a sense of community and enjoyment in what we do. I find that alot of production message boards can be a little stale when it comes to this kind of thing, and to me it seems that working on something together could generate a bit more excitement. I know this kind of thing isn’t for everyone, but i personally get alot from working with other people.br
br
Anywhere, there’s my idea. If your keen let me know. Once i get an idea of whether it would be feasible we can take it from there.br

Hey man!br
br
I actually came on here to post about collaberations and came across this post, which I think is a great idea. I like the predesignated genre idea, and was thinking maybe we could also introduce a duo collab system where it’s like teams of two working together to create tracks as well. br
br
Anyways, I also wanted to holler at the SA guys and suggest maybe making a different subforun for people looking for other people to collab with through Skype or some type of thing. Or even list like where you’re from, and maybe you’ll hook up with someone who lives near you. just my two cents though.
Yeah i’m open to other ideas, whatever people are keen forbr
br
Let’s see if anyone else is interested and we can take it from there. It may be that only me an you are keen which is cool, i’m up for a normal type of collab. I just though the criteria i set would make it a little more exciting and challenging.br
br
To get the ball rolling check out some of my tracks on Soundcloud to get an idea of my style and current level of production, and anyone else that is interested do the samebr
br
Hey I would be down to write a track with you! br
br
send a message if you’re interested!br

I’ll let this thread run for the rest of the week to see if it generates anymore interest as i think a group of about 5 or 6 would be perfect, I might post it on another forum as well to get the numbers up.br
br
I’ll keep you both posted.
Just to keep you updated, there are 5 people confirmed so far.br
br
It would be cool to get a couple more guys on board. I’ll let it run till the end of the week and then we can get the ball rolling!br
br
14 people have now confirmed. I will close group applicants on Sunday evening and contact everyone individually to take it from there.br
br
