Combining Drum Samples from the Mistabishi CM Sample CD

Hi

I wondered if you could help out:

In this months Computer Music, the Mistabishi sample CD has folders for the Kick Drum transient and then various Kicks with all of the transient removed (sounds like a bit of a mush). The idea is that you are meant to combine them to generate custom sounds. Here is what I have been trying but I can’t quite get right:

  1. Tuning them to the same note
  2. EQ’ing the transient sample so that the initial click transient has some of the bass content removed i.e. so that they are not getting in each others way
  3. Compression added to try to glue them together

Am I doing the right things but with the wrong settings? Or do I need to be doing different things to get quality custom kicks? At the moment you can still tell they are two discrete samples

    Any help much appreciated

    Thanks

    Nick

Did you have a look at the kick *** kicks tutorial? Its about doing exatcly the thing your asking.

Hi Phil

Thanks for that - much appreciated. I had overlooked the tutorial as I am currently on Logic. I can probably do something similar, its just that Logic will not be quite as efficient

What is the scoop in the EQ doing on the Low Channel and how do you go about finding the sweet spot?

Best Regards

Nick

The scoop just softens the sound a bit. You can play around with feqs from 124-500 hz
