hi guys, may seem like a stupid question but what do you compress? i know how to compress drums and that its a must. but what i want to know is do you compress all your sounds? i realised hat i got into the habbit of putting a compressor on every sound i use and bringing the threshold back abou -11 (abletons compresser) then i got into the habbit of grouping sounds and compressing that :S then when got the psp vimtage warmer, i put that on alll my channels aswell so is it like doubley compressed? need help here! i rendered the track down and it seems muffled and all, sounds like over compression so i just deleted alll compressors and starting blank… what should i do?
no hard and fast rule mate, i personally compress my drums and sometimes put a mix gel on a group track if it’s got lead synths running or want ducking to occur.
again personally I would probably want to put some kind compression on a vocal track as well.
The biggest thing to remember is that compression is an effect not an instrument, you don’t NEED it, but you can use it.
I still maintain the key to a good track is getting a well balanced mix more then anything else.
