Compressor & sidechaining

Hi - currently using cubase 5…have been playing around with sidechain compression…followed the elctro house tutorial (in cubase) and i cant seem to get the old pump effect going.

used to use ableton and the pump there was much more noticable

im thinking of trying another means of getting the desired effect

1) rewire to ableton to use the compressor there - not overly certain how to do this but can prob work it out.

2) get a new software compressor - recommendations welcome

3) get a hardware compressor - how the hell do i connect this to my computer - is it via the ins/outs of my soundcard?

any thoughts / ideas / advice welcome

The Cubase one should work fine… do a screen grab of your settings and we can have a look at anything you might be missing.

playing with the  Threshold  might help :slight_smile:

think i wasnt sending enough of the signal from the kick to the compressor…its a bit late now…i’ll turn it up louder tomorrow and see what the craic is…

i had just activated side chain and was messing with the compressor settings but hadnt pulled the wee bar on the send over to the right…duh!!!
