Hey guys,
Wondering how everyone is hooking up their monitors to their laptops or computers in general. I have been using my headphone out and going directly into my monitors. I also use a Macbookpro 10.5.8. I think the built in sound card sounds good enough but I’m wondering if there’s any noticeable difference if I switch over to a USB connection and go through a sound card. Any thoughts on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

depends on the quality of the soundcard.
lot o of people rave about the focusrite cards and i think that’s what phil uses. i have the apogee duet 2 and it sounds top notch. had a crappy beringer card before that and it made huge difference when i got the duet.
some would also say learn your craft before you start thinking about sound cards. up to you. i got mine early in the game.
I have a focusrite saffire pro and love it. Sound quality is very good, it is a firewire card. For $200 its great bang for buck
I use a USB Yamaha audiogram 3 cost me bout £80! I had a native instruments Audio Kontrol USB interface b4 the Yamaha n that cost me bout £200 Tbh I can’t tell the difference. When my NI interface broke I went to buy a new 1, I had it in mind to get a focusrite interface but when I was in the shop the staff said to go.for the Yamaha! So as it was half the price of the focusrite I got the Yamaha and bought a zoom digital audio recorder with the money I’d saved! Bosh happy days :)br
Thanks for your input, guys. I’ve heard a lot of great things regarding focusrite products, but now that Andy said he uses a yamaha and it’s half the price I am going to look into that as well… Cheers
Just bought ESI Gigaport HD+ USB Audio Interface for £80 (ex-demo) for my new Traktor setup. Has 4x stereo outputs, headphones but no input (no biggie as I always record sets externally onto minidisc).br

Previously had a setup with PCDJ on win-XP that I was using for about 10 years with a Terratec Aureon USB MKII, which I got for abou £50 back in the day. That had 2x stereo and 1x mono out, but is not compatible with Traktor. (It worked with 2 decks but had to be reinstalled on top of a fresh Traktor set-up each time I logged in!).br

Now I can mix 4 decks externally with a nice crisp sound. For the price, you can’t complain.
